Due to family illness it took a few extra days to get to the task, but all the 2024 kids are tattooed, microchip checked (I have one to rechip that I could not find the chip on so it probably fell out before the hole closed as a little baby), Bose boosted, copper bolused, collared, weighed, hoovies trimmed DNA pulled for identification and parent verification, and vaxed for pneumonia and CDT. All 14 of them.
The heaviest one was the 17 week old buckling I kept that was 75 pounds. The lightest one was 11 week old Precious, a Iris the big mini x Pete the Lamancha cross twin that was 29 pounds. It looks like Iris' petite genetics that tend to shrink everything and make them dwarf size are winning even though those minis are something like 80% standard goat. Hopefully they will wind up their mother's size. Hey, but most of the 17 week old standard kids are in the 60 pounds range which isn't too bad.
The animal move is set for next month on the 13th. If illness could let go of this house I really need to go drive that trailer!

School ends this week. We're also trying to find out what happens to Dan, who has great classroom grades, if he does not get a good score on this TCAP, which is an automatic fail of the grade regardless of classroom grades UNLESS he attends summer school with them with 90% attendance...but he will no longer be a TN state resident after June 13th so he will not be eligible for TN public summer school and he'll be going to a place where nobody will care about his TCAP scores. Will they fail him on his transcripts? We could probably appeal the decision to his new school when we get there, but I'd really like this TCAP fallout to end sooner rather than later (and who knows the results of that). They've already lost a whole year of learning.
The whole TCAP thing is designed as a blow to the teacher's union and schools, which apparently our legislation views as "democratic" organizations (frustrating because everyone here including teachers are usually conservatives without much variation). The state wants vouchers to gut funding from the already underfunded public schools and to put that funding in the pockets of their private and charter school running buddies. We as a state voted on the voucher program that the politicians wanted and we voted NO. We don't want the first step of destroying our public school system. They don't like that so they're going to destroy the schools from the inside by going around "we the people" and parents.
And our kids don't care about any of this. They're just attending school and getting penalized and losing education time and having to go to summer school and repeat grades none of which will help all because the politicians want the school funding to go to other people.
Someone has already humorously said that regardless of what happens they're excited because the high school football teams are going to be GREAT with all the 21 year old "kids" the state is not going to allow to graduate until they kick out for being too old (although in reality the adults will drop out and start working because opportunity cost and adults don't like being treated like children and all). Lol.
I sense a state uprising coming. A lot of angry parents everywhere. But NONE of this should be our problem after we leave and get Dan and Aiden's school stuff settled. THANK GOODNESS (so, so sick of this nonsense).
These are also the politicians that recently had a "teachers come from the dumbest parts of colleges" scandal. They're really good at keeping the volatile TN masses placated and non thinking, but the state really needs to vote anyone who condoned that thinking out, because they're not going to quit doing what we're dealing with now and more. Kids are the next generation of adults (including politicians) and making their education worse by killing public schools and segregating away anyone who's parents have the time and resources get them to unmonitored private schools will not serve society.
Particularly frustrating for me because I lived here a little while as a kid and the schools here were BAD then. Worse. They've since come a long way. And this beautiful state is lined up to lose that progress. Oh well, rant over.
