I've been telling DH over and over that I'm worried about him and that his night driving isn't great and he should get with his doctor so he could be classified as remote and not have to drive to even the metro station when the sun rises late and sets early and he didn't listen (we do a lot of that lately, and the result is that I have to go with it or throw a fit/have a show down, which I hate doing and might be why we wound up here). So yesterday during a week his company is requiring him to leave the house at 7am and return at 10 pm or later he hit a deer, while driving the truck, and it's likely totaled. So now we're down to one vehicle and I doubt I'll be listened to for this one either.
I'm so grateful it was the truck he was driving and not the van, because the van is shaped in such a way the deer would get thrown up towards the windshield and the truck would bump into (like last night) or go over the deer keeping DH safe and the truck was just a little bit too small for what we were asking it to do, but driving that truck always made me happy in spite of my self so I'm sad it's probably gone.

Looking forward to DH being forced to endanger himself driving unnecessarily to work 5 days a week instead of three next year, and also them starting to count in office hours. This is for a job that still hasn't given them enough desks or even FUNCTIONAL DESKS for him to claim one on the three days he's already forced to be in office, most meetings are remote over the computer, and he spends all day telling the computer what to do and putting it into their cloud wherever he's at (seriously, he can work anywhere there's an internet connection on his phone). I wonder how long the van will last and I hope he doesn't total himself with it. Will today's hug goodbye be our last? Clearly we have to be out of vehicles before we listen... (crashed his little car earlier, probably not his fault, now my truck, now he's driving the family van to the metro at 6:45 am to come home at some time after dark because the higher ups say JUMP)

Both of these feel accurate here.

I am so sorry for this latest disaster. However, I have one suggestion and he really needs to listen to you about getting another vehicle..... if there is an emergency for one of the kids, you cannot be left home with no way to get to their school or something like that. Please impress on him that you CANNOT be without a vehicle in case of something like that happening.
I thought that the whole thing about moving was that it would make his job more flexible? Didn't this company do this to him when you moved down near your family in TN?
I don't know what it is with men in general about being stubborn and thickheaded about some things...
Maybe he needs to really seriously consider a job change of sorts... for the sake of the family?

Sorry to say but the deer populations are increasing and areas closer to more suburban/small farms are getting worse because they learn to live within the hodgepodge of farms/houses etc... Due to that there is also less hunting in these areas and the deer get good at finding the safe places and frequent them.
On top of that there has been a general increase in the deer populations because we have not had severe winter weather, more fawns are surviving and does are having more twins.

Yes, they moved the requirement with three badge in/out per week when we moved to Nashville. They're doing it again and upping what they require and I suspect they will start tracking hours to eliminate "coffee badgers" that they are already complaining about (people who badge in, grab a coffee, then badge out to go work in the comfort of home instead of deskless, locker less, too few bathrooms etc office).

Hardheaded is the right word. Very hard headed.

All the big tech companies are doing this kind of thing right now so there aren't many jobs floating around. They definitely did not coordinate. That would be illegal. End result will be a big mess and a union situation if they keep pushing it and nobody really wants that. Does not help us though.
Yep, carless during the day like the old days. DH does not always think about this kind of thing. He'd have to ride and hour and a half back on the subway and THEN go get the kid having an emergency himself and miss everything. While I'm stuck at home.
