If you are going to move them, now is the time so they can get acclimated to the temps as it warms up and gets more humid in TX also. I agree... don't leave them. Give him the dignity of living out his life with familiar people and LGD's and other animals since it will not be familiar territory... PLUS.... he will be on fairly FLAT ground... much easier on his old bones and injuries... might give him a new lease on life....

Like the new ram you are getting...

Yesterday I went through the old livestock files and shredded old vet bills, duplicate paperwork from dog and sheep correspondence and registrations, sheep purchases from years ago, etc. I moved the shredder and a chair into the bedroom so I could watch TV while shredding. LOL Emptied another whole file drawer. 5 hours!

I spent 11 straight hours today sorting old business papers and shredding docs! You can't just toss them in the trash any more with identity theft so rampant. We have Lifelock since my ID has been stolen several times. Finally had to put a freeze on my credit with the credit agencies. Oddly enough only mine, not DH. These were old loan docs so everything was in them. There were multiple copies of the same docs for every transaction since I just kept putting them into the file without going through and reading them (100 pages) each time DH would find a copy and toss it on my desk. I had to go through all the docs and decide which ones were which so I could shred the right ones and keep the current ones. Like I said it took about 11 hours to sort and shred. The shredding was not so bad, but the shredder would overheat after an hour or so. So I would sort until it cooled down, then shred the next pile. 3 garbage bags of cross shredded paper. That stuff would be so good for rabbit worm beds. I also had several file folders of permits, and improvement receipts on the house to sort and keep for eventual tax info on capital gains if we sell the house. I did locate all the permits (even the ones we pulled when we bought the house) and put them all in one file so I could find them easily.

I have now sorted all the paperwork on the house appliances into one file for DS2 and DDIL2 when we move. I have another file for small appliances that stay here. Then I have a file on small appliances that I am taking with me or have already moved to TX. I have a file with all the paperwork on the TVs and VCRs to go to TX. Also some remote controls I found. I am not certain what units they go to or if the paperwork is for current TVs or VCRs since need to compare model numbers, but just in case, I will take it and sort it out when we get the different items set up in TX. I also found a lot of the paperwork and instruction books on some of our power tools which I have sorted out. I put the files for items that will stay here in the file cabinet I am leaving here. The others are being packed in file boxes to go.

Anyway, my upper back hurts now. I still have a huge file of documents relating to the sale of several easements across the back of our property to go through tomorrow. Not to mention an entire drawer of files relating to purchase and management of old properties.

Do you think that I am somewhat OCD when it comes to filing paperwork? It probably comes from my years as a legal secretary. Also beats looking for a document in my computer when DH wants it. I can barely find documents or pix I have stored in there at the best of times let alone when he s on the phone demanding the doc from me. It has served me well in the past though. I had a company try to force me to pay $800 for a service I did not order and had specifically told a management company NOT to do. The company sent it to collection and by sending copies of the relevant paperwork, communications and copies of emails, the collection agency dropped the claim against us and went after the management company (which I had fired). Paper copies of written documents are still the best way to fight fraudulent claims.

Anyway, naturally after that thrilling day I went to bed and again can't sleep. It is raining now and will be raining the rest of the weekend. We are supposed to get heavy flooding. I thawed some chicken carcasses (now that I have emptied part of the freezers there is room to toss in the carcasses after eating the chickens) and will make chicken stock tomorrow. Nothing like having a pot of soup simmering on the stove during a rainstorm. Unless it is cookies baking in the oven. LOL I found a large package of thin sliced chuck steaks in the freezer and will make a big recipe of Swiss steak with mushroom gravy tomorrow for DH. It is his mother's recipe.

Now that the rain has started the dogs are barking less. For the past couple days the coyotes have been yipping and howling right outside our fences. The dogs have been going crazy about it. Often if the coyotes are howling on the hill behind us the dogs ignore them but these coyotes must have been too close for comfort.

I have to pack up the invalid toilet that I got out for DH when he had his knee surgery in October. It is still in the bathroom and is taking up room. I got rid of the one I had for my aunt and this one was given to me by a friend who didn't need it anymore. It can join the walker, the wheelchair, and the folding wheelchair ramp in the Connex until the next time it is needed. :fl Hopefully not for a while but expensive to buy and you can't get invalid equipment at thrift stores anymore!

That’s a LOT of files, paperwork and shredding! I have some boxes of that kind of stuff, but not as much as you do. I do need to go through and sort it out. I don’t have a shredder but I have 4 big lovely burn piles waiting to be burnt.

35 years of paperwork! Saved the important stuff, and shredded the rest. Moving right along. Took a break and went for coffee. DH was watching the Fort Worth Stock Show Rodeo finals. Good time to make the Swiss steak for supper so I could watch rodeo which I love. During the opening ceremonies all the dignitaries were on horses and looked like they could ride well. BUT SOMEONE SHOULD TELL THOSE CURVY WOMEN TO WEAR A SPORTS BRA WHEN TROTTING AROUND THE ARENA! Looked pretty painful. Made the Swiss steak with mushroom gravy, got the fresh brussels sprouts cooking, and sat down to watch the rest of the finals.

Only 2 of the 8 or 9 bull riding finalists managed to stay on for the 8 seconds to win prize money. Two winning women barrel racers were a Sioux and a Navajo. Head and heelers did well. The announcer kept announcing all the wins each participant had made in the past which was nice except when many of them got a NS score.
OOPS! Humiliating. :hide

Raining heavily now, started last night. Kept coming and going during the morning - now raining steadily. Not as severe as predicted but there is still time for more storm to arrive. Across the canyon there is an area where someone did illegal grading and was stopped. She was also crossing our property without permission. She was a nasty and rude piece of work about it too. She had moved 5 water tanks up there. Noticed part of the graded area seems to have collapsed and one of her water tanks is about 100 feet down the hill.

The sheep are crowded under the metal teepee. We moved the old trampoline into their pen as extra shelter. It keeps everything under it dry since the jumping surface is rubber, but they don't like it. They can walk under it but for some reason they won't shelter under it. It might feel too low? Instead, the ram and 12 ewes are crowded like sardines under the teepee. Standing room only. Go figure! Who can understand the sheeply brain? Oh wait! They don't have one. :idunno

DS1 reminded me to check the windows in the trailer - they have been open to air it out. A little rain had blown but I closed the windows. Not wet, just damp under the windows. Everything should dry out. Not too bad. Will put some of the dehumidifying crystal packets in there to help with any moisture.

This is ridiculous. If you trap a rat you have to humanely euthanize it or set it free. Can’t buy glue traps because they are cruel. Rat poison is banned.

Did you read this @Ridgetop ? Make sure that you are kind to ground squirrels, they are much cuter than rats! No more Ratinator traps for you!

You’d better hurry up and move to Texas! It’s ok to kill rats here!

Geeze you’re getting more rain than us. We had perfect weather today blue skies and puffy clouds. Buuut it’s just starting to spit now at 10pm.
Wow on the neighbor- but a tank that Mother Nature moved 100ft down hill - KARMA!
Just another thing on the “Why you’re moving to TX” list.

Well, I'm officially on the list -- INHUMANE to mice! 👍

My herd of feral cats missed one.😳 It got in the house. No doubt it was a preggers female and now she & 4 youngins have been seduced onto sticky boards, after tantalizing p-nut butter! They will now be suffocated in plastic bags 🤬. More stickies out in case there are any more. A family outing.

Send the rodent police to get me!! I'm armed 💪😡

YIKE - I looked at the radar for the current rains -- you look like your smack dab in the middle of it! I'm only on the edge. Wondering if your low ground has now given you lake front property?! And just how far has that neighbor's water tank slid now!??
