Erick told me he lost 25 GROWN GOATS. And look how long he’s been raising and culling hard.
:ep Wow! That is a massive loss! And prices on goats and sheep are high to replace. It has been a hard year everywhere with parasites.

I am hoping that next year we will be better and the sheep will acclimate to Texas. I am not opposed to worming with chemical wormers like some people, however I don't want to set up a resistance in the parasites. We wormed with Ivermectin when we first arrived and before we left CA. Now he wormed wth Cydectin for Barber Pole. May have to set up a worming routine. O sm hping tht rotting the sheep to dofferent areas of pastures frequently will be more hepful in keeping the worms down.

DH is finally home. :weee

Went to Lowes finally and got some joint compound to start filling nail holes and cracks before painting. I am not sure if I will paint the rooms before Christmas but esnt the wals prepped. Also got a scrubber/squeegee to do the windows. They are pretty dirty and I might as well wash them now. Bought 5 plants to plant in the garden to spruce it up. I am very bored right now and want to get to working on something!

DS1 is leaving tomorrow afternoon to meet his friend Leen and Leen's girlfriend in New Orleans for 2 days. They want to have good seafood, go to a jazz club and St Thomas cemetary. He said they will not be out late at night and will stay together. He will be eaving for Yantis early on Sunday since lLeen and girlfriend are flying to Galveston to take a cruise.

DS is peeved since the sheep apparently knocked over a section of the electric netting to get to the Bahia pasture. For the past several months they have avoided the Bahia like it is poisonous. Now that the electric netting is up they decided that they MUST eat Bahia! But did they go around through the open area? NO! They knocked down the netting and broke a couple of the strands. DS1 said that a repair kit was included with the rlls f netting so h will repair ii when he returns. He said they might have been trying to rub on it and is looking forward to the surpriseo n their faces when he electrifies it with the new charger! I will have to tel him to take a video. :gig

Talked to Erick and he said that the goats seemed fine one day and dead the next! He is not sure what caused it since it seemed the worm season had ended. Hasine is doing great - he tells himself every time he goes out "Now Erick, she's Mary's dog!" We have decided once I am in Texas we will enter some dog shows with the youngsters. Neither of us can run any more in the show ring so we will have to find some handlers. LOL

DH called before he left to tell me that Ozel did a great thing. He was taking the dead lamb out to the "cemetary corner" and she went with him to the gate. He told her go back home but she ignored him and sat down at the gate. he told her to stay and opened the gate. She stayed. He drove the tractor through and shut the gate and she remained sitting inside the sheep yard. When he came back to the gate she had gone back to the sheep. He was really pleased that she had stayed in the fenced yard instead of going into the hayfield. She is growing up.

.Angel punished Ozel the other day. Apparently Ozel is being trained to remain in the back field with the sheep for night duty. DS1 went out to feed and she came running in to eat her dinner. Angel jumped on her with terrifying snarls, knocked her down, and beat her up WITHOUT LEAVInG A SINGLE TOOTH MARK! Then she watched as Ozel sunl back to the rear pasture. DS1 had to take Ozel's supper out to her where she was on guard duty. LOL I remember when Bubba and Rika were training Angel to stand night duty on the field. Never beat her up, but our sheep were much closer to the house than they are in Yantis. DH said he has heard gunshots at night ately. Probably farmers shooting hogs coming in to their corn stations before deer season.

DS1 is in New Orleans with his friends. Leen's girlfriend knows the city and has been taking them around. The cemetary where Marie leVaux is buried is only open to tour groups and you have to get tickets early. They will go to Lafayette Cemetary instead. Then they will take the rental car and sightsee before he takes Leen and Renee to the airport tomorrow and comes on home. He said it was a really pretty drive through Louisiana. He would like to go back and do more sightseeing so I said maybe DH and I would go as well. We can get a tour where all the meals and hotels are covered, and you have a guide. He is bringing me some Pralines. He said there is plenty of room in the freezer for them since he found and ate all the baked treats I had in there.
