Our family is interested in finding American Chinchilla rabbits. However, like most, the search is difficult at best. Impossible at the moment.

Any tips to find a breeder in IL? Short of calling all the local 4-H'ers to find a breeder, I'm at a loss. The only person listed near us in the ACRBA isn't returning calls at all. Although she facebooks....but I don't....maybe I need to learn!

Those I have contacted have yet to respond - is the demand seriously that high?! We're all busy people, but if you're listed as a breeder, wouldn't you WANT customers to call you?! Sorry, just my $.02 there....

Ok, off the soapbox. WHEN we obtain our rabbits, YES, we will be building a great rabbit so we can join in the preservation of this unique breed. That is the goal. We already have critters on the Livestock Conservatory endangered list. Just widening the scope to include rabbits..

Tips or hints are appreciated. We're outside Chicago in N. IL...and thus far the search is dry!

I don't know any breeders here in IL, but want to watch this thread as I'm interested in getting some myself! If I find anyone I'll let you know!

I have American Chinchilla Rabbits in Northern Arkansas. I used to live in Central Illinois and bought my rabbits from a breeder in Southern Illinois on my way to my new farm in Arkansas. Check the breeders directory at https://livestockconservancy.org/

I have my first batch of grow-ots just reaching 3 months. My next rabbits are due to be born May 11. I have two registered breeding pair. In a few months I can provide one breeding pair for several people.

Thank you for the welcome. Same tag name on BYC. Outside animals - chickens, honeybees, hopefully shortly rabbits. Indoors - Am. box turtles (had for almost 30yrs now), gecko, toads and frogs (local varieties only overwintering), fancy goldfish, dog, cat, parrotlet. I think that's everyone.....!
Thanks again.

Thank you for the tip!
I had found that gentlemen listed on the Livestock Conservatory - and had tried to reach him before posting here. Haven't tried often, as I don't wish to pester....but have yet to receive a reply. I know several shows were this month, so I figure he's out somewhere.......
I'll try again shortly.
Good to know that he was active at least recently! LOL. Sometimes info like that gets outdated quickly....
