@Alaskan yes, if the area is wet then they will smell pretty bad. The only good way to keep the smell down is to let them have enough room to have a separate bathroom area and to try to keep it dry. Lime will help with the smell but keeping it dry is about the best way.

I have 5... all homeschooled, ages are 12 to 22... so currently homeschooling 3.

Nothing better than the kids having to do animal chores.

Pigs STINK to high heaven and beyond! But I do love bacon and pork chops.

Goats are great but desperately need excellent fencing.

I have definitely found a lot of joy in homeschooling. You must have been exhausted much of the time!! We too love bacon and any pig meat product in general. I have certainly read that goats need excellent fencing to keep them from escaping.

Oh... my kids like rabbits best for slaughter and meat.

Easiest animal ever for slaughter day, and then you have the hide to play with.

We have grown so fond of raising meat rabbits!!! They are super easy! We just added our first flock of jumbo coturnix quail too!
