I was reading through the USDA Sustainable Agriculture Research, Education study and ran across something that I wasn't aware of about Garlic Barrier that you can buy. We always buy it by the gallon since it's more economical but it is available in quart size jars. Thing is, the SARE study dose was from the gallon size. The difference is that the quart size is only 10% garlic juice while the gallon is 99.3% garlic juice and is the strength used in the study.

The study used the garlic six times during the year with one tespoon of garlic juice with enough water to make the dose one ounce. We also give Power Punch at the same time so that makes the total dose 20 mil.

Does the garlic juice percentage come out the same once you add water to the concentrate? Sure seems like the quart size is a financial fool's errand.

We never saw a reason to add water so they are getting the full dose but we follow with a syringe of Power Punch. It seems to do the job though.

Tennessee weather is pretty consistent. We had a few days with lows in the 40's and then a couple of days down in the 30's followed by a couple of weeks with day temps in the 70;s and up to 80 for a few. Now we have about 6 days with mornings in the 20's and if it follow the last several years, that will be it for winter.

I spent most of the day today pulling or brushing shed hair that hasn't fallen off yet from several of the ewes but it's as much a pleasure for me as it is for the ewes. We have to take all four dogs in tomorrow for their shots but we have two appointments since the dogs have temperaments that doesn't allow them to all be in the same vehicle. Maisy and Mel could be with anyone but Lance who seems to be the most pliant of all of them has extreme dog aggression and has tried to go through a chain link fence to get to another dog. Not to mention, Mel has to have a seat all by himself so none of the others would fit. :)

Mike: What brand and where do you get the gallon size garlic? We haven't had parasites yet (too dry for past 5 years) but with the continual rain this year, might have to do some worming eventually.

How often do you treat with garlic?

Since I cook all my lamb with slight amounts of garlic, I wonder if I would save on seasonings after feeding the garlic to my butcher lambs. A whole new advertising gimmick - pre-seasoned lamb! LOL

We get it from Garlic Barrier http://www.garlicbarrier.com/pricing.html

They have other vendors with links on their price page also. The only issue is that if you are buying less than a case, you have to call them.

We treat every time we bring them in which is at least once a month or six weeks. That study I mentioned earlier, treated at least six times a year. That study is also at this web site.
