This picture of Graceson and Whiskey in their choice of sleeping accommodations in cold weather. We had the pot in an alcove by our front door that had Aloe in it. About a month ago, Whiskey decided that the pot would be a nice place to sleep so we removed the Aloe and added the heat lamp and he has been sleeping there ever since. We have a bedding area in a shed and we have offered to let them in the house but when they come in, they stay on the porch for awhile and then sit stairing at the door to get out. There is a small carrier next to the pot and for awhile, Graceson slept on top of the carrier but they have decided that they both fit on the flower pot.

Just go through and drill some rye seed in where ever he can get on the ground... wheat/rye or something... not disturb the existing grass just drill right through the sod... and whatever comes up is a plus.

The cattle (and sheep) hooves will help compact the soil over it to protect the seed.

Is that for cattle that have died from drought or to help buy feed? I should apply but in southern California they would laugh at me. I think I will check on it in Teas though in case of another drought.

It is forecast to get down in the 20's tonight so Murphy says that will be when one or more drop lambs out there. I have the shelter open and heat lamps up but since they never use them, that helps the human thought process.

Low 20s here tonight, 18 this morning . Thankful no kidding due until Jan. Worried about temps then.

Record temps for here today, this time of yr. VA beach is 60 miles....we're way below norm.

Open shelter and heat lamps, you’d think that they’d go enjoy the shelter and be all cozy. But noooooooo…….. they’d rather have lamb popsicles!

In my lean to open on 3 sides barn in Lindale, was the original shelter I hastily built from sheets of OSB.8x8 with 2 sheets on top, open on one side, a sheet long ways on side and back, lean to style off the side of the portable building. 4 feet tall, it made shoveling it out rather difficult, lots of head bumps and cuss words. But the ewes loved it and would lamb in it. I guess they felt safe there. They would even stash their lambs in it, so I never tore it down. No, I’m not building them another one.

Heat lamps with the cords tied up high to prevent any animal pulling it down. When you could get incandescent bulbs, the 100 watt bulbs were fine for heat lamps inside a 3-sided shelter or barn.

It was a beautiful day today with rain in the forecast for the next couple of days so I went down to the Alabama feed store. This is the first time in a couple of years that the price has not increased since the last time I bought sheep feed there.

That’s cause for celebration! Same price twice in a row! Break out the champagne!
