I have a horse that has to have his teeth floated but it will be a couple of days before the vet can come he has trouble eating and we already wet his food to a mash should we feed it to him our selves so we know he is getting all of it. or just keep doing what we do.

There is no way to safely "make" a horse eat, and don't try it, you'll end up giving him choke or pneumonia.

Some horses will have their appetite perked up by adding a little of their favorite treat to the mash -- try a little molasses or cinnamon or applesauce -- so you could try that, but it's out of your hands whether he wants to eat, or how much.

Do feed him somewhere that other horses can't try to steal his food or harass him though. Ideally an adjoining paddock where he can see and hang out with them but he isn't actually *in* with them.

Is this the "help I have a horse and he isn't eating" thread elderly horse?

Best of luck,

Pat
