Welcome to BYH I am back in the lanf of the living. Been super busy sence Thursday. This weekend I build a buck house, finished securing his yard, I brought him home and had a long night with a buck crying for a buddy . Ended up putting his girl in with him and about midnight last night (this morning ) everyone settled down and went to sleep.
Just new here, didn't see anyone from Utah? There has to be someone from Utah around here. Plenty of farm land, plenty of farm animals. Poultry too.
Would love to see what folks are doing around our state with their animals.
I'm into chickens myself. Hatching them is a fun thing for me. Maybe..too much fun.. I hatch a lot. I am on BYC..they know!
My Miss Piggy just laid an egg. Love leghorns..they are a very sweet bird, and not too many people know that!
Hi! I know this thread is crazy old, but I didn't see any others for Utah Im here too! Currently raising rabbits, but hoping to expand to chickens, and then someday, if all my wishes come true- goats! I have so much that I need to learn on all of this and would love to pick somebody's knowledge that is in the same area as me. Utah peeps- where are ya?
that's great!, there is a lot of good information and helpful people in the rabbit section. How old are your does? do you have a place to get a buck- don't forget that you will want to quarantine him away from your does for at least 30 days before introducing him to your does.
Our does will be 3 months old next week. So we plan on getting a buck in about two months. Ive read that after 6 months is the ideal time to breed?
We'll DEFINITELY be quarantining any new animals I've seen what can happen when that isn't done from our experience in fostering kittens with the animal shelters- no bueno.
No idea where to get a buck so far, but it seems that the classifieds near us usually have rabbit listings often- so Im hoping that works!
one thing that we noticed since we have started raising rabbits is getting a rabbit while it is younger helps with getting it use to you and can help make handling easier. We ended up starting our Cali group with a year old breed doe and she isn't as personable to us as those we have raised from little on. We also brought in 2 French Angoras rabbits at 8 weeks old and the buck(in my avatar) is very sweet and loveable(thinks small dog) and the doe is not once she became mature.
