When researching, I've read that at 8 months if feeding alfalfa pellets, you must switch to timothy based pellet so there is no problems with obesity. So why feed alfalfa pellets if you can supply timothy based pellets with alfalfa HAY for a few months which I did for weight gain and muscle tone?
Be careful on your resource sources. I'd say there's about 95% incorrect information out there from "experts" (including vets). It's difficult for good, sincere individuals (like Ms. Research) who are wanting to get correct answers to know who to believe and who not to believe. The Internet is great but is also a great downfall because information is free... and too often wrong.

My best advice is to listen to people who have a vested interest in raising rabbits, have done it for years, stays on top of research and has hands on experience with large numbers of rabbits (not just a couple bunnies they've had for years as pets). Someone who monitors production results (successes, failures) and does a lot of breeding is also very beneficial. There is great knowledge found when you are fine tuning a system vs. casually raising rabbits, even if very passionate about them. Also helps if the person is open minded so that they don't rely solely on "traditions", but at the same time doesn't follow every new fad that comes along. Unfortunately these individuals aren't the ones that are usually vocal because they're too busy raising rabbits. It's almost a catch 22 for correct info seekers.

This is in no way meant as an attack or accusation toward anyone. Just advice for those out there that are looking for correct information about raising rabbits. Unfortunately, for the really important details there are only a couple individuals I completely trust regarding raising rabbits. Incorrect information results in great losses which I try to avoid at all costs. The Internet is a goldmine for less important details and general knowledge.

I use Bar Ale rabbit pellets but yours sound fine You should switch from alfalfa to timoty it is better for them
Not being argumentative, but I would like to see some solid evidence to back that up. Every rabbit related book I have read says to use an alfalfa based pellet. If I could see some research that backs up the claim, I *might* think about switching....

Wow, boy did I step on toes of the God of bunnies. It may not be meant to hurt, but I know exactly where it was directed,.

Whatever.

And here's the Second in Command to the God of Bunnies. I told you what I did. I'm sorry it doesn't fit YOUR criteria. And yes, I just got involved. I don't raise MEAT rabbits like you and AZ Rabbits. Anybody can raise meat rabbits for God sake. But when you go for genetic order, see ya,.

K

BTW, I let Dr Joe, My MEAT RAISING Rabbit VET know you don't think he raised his rabbits, that put him THROUGH college, right. He'll get a giggle out of that.

How about a chill pill?? That's the problem with the internet and reading words on a screen - the intent of a remark can only be guessed at which leads to what's about to get started here. K - I don't believe AZ or Oneacre were intentionally flaming / deriding you or your comments. AZ made an excellent post, that should be a guide to anyone researching information on the internet. I take all I hear / read with a grain of salt - as I'm sure you do - until I feel comfortable that the information is valid. Site's like this are a godsend to those just starting out, as we have the benefit of insight from those who have more experience and can help us avoid the pitfalls that lay ahead. Learning by experience is good, but if you can avoid issues already encountered by others there is no need to reinvent the wheel. Oneacre has also shared a lot of valuable information. Judging by some of your past comments, we both came on this site / acquired rabbits at approximately the same time. You have posted some good information, and I can tell by the way you care for your rabbits and comment to others on theirs, that your heart is in the right place. Lets not start down the path that this is headed. Peace, Love, and I gotta get to work!

I've gotten valuable information from both of them ON THE INTERNET. That's why I was shocked by their past posts. I'm not trying to say "HEY I KNOW IT ALL", but at least don't smack me down for trying to help. The "only have a few rabbits as pets" comment was the key.

But you are right.

Yes Peace, Love and I gotta get to work.
