AZ Rabbits
Ridin' The Range
Be careful on your resource sources. I'd say there's about 95% incorrect information out there from "experts" (including vets). It's difficult for good, sincere individuals (like Ms. Research) who are wanting to get correct answers to know who to believe and who not to believe. The Internet is great but is also a great downfall because information is free... and too often wrong.Ms. Research said:When researching, I've read that at 8 months if feeding alfalfa pellets, you must switch to timothy based pellet so there is no problems with obesity. So why feed alfalfa pellets if you can supply timothy based pellets with alfalfa HAY for a few months which I did for weight gain and muscle tone?
My best advice is to listen to people who have a vested interest in raising rabbits, have done it for years, stays on top of research and has hands on experience with large numbers of rabbits (not just a couple bunnies they've had for years as pets). Someone who monitors production results (successes, failures) and does a lot of breeding is also very beneficial. There is great knowledge found when you are fine tuning a system vs. casually raising rabbits, even if very passionate about them. Also helps if the person is open minded so that they don't rely solely on "traditions", but at the same time doesn't follow every new fad that comes along. Unfortunately these individuals aren't the ones that are usually vocal because they're too busy raising rabbits. It's almost a catch 22 for correct info seekers.
This is in no way meant as an attack or accusation toward anyone. Just advice for those out there that are looking for correct information about raising rabbits. Unfortunately, for the really important details there are only a couple individuals I completely trust regarding raising rabbits. Incorrect information results in great losses which I try to avoid at all costs. The Internet is a goldmine for less important details and general knowledge.
