I use Bar Ale rabbit pellets but yours sound fine You should switch from alfalfa to timoty it is better for them
Not being argumentative, but I would like to see some solid evidence to back that up. Every rabbit related book I have read says to use an alfalfa based pellet. If I could see some research that backs up the claim, I *might* think about switching....
timothy HAY i use alfalfa pellets
Ok, now THAT makes more sense! :D I use either Timothy or Coastal grass hay because Alfalfa hay would be too much protein for the rabbits on top of the alfalfa pellets. I though you meant Timothy PELLETS.... LOL!

And here's the Second in Command to the God of Bunnies. I told you what I did. I'm sorry it doesn't fit YOUR criteria. And yes, I just got involved. I don't raise MEAT rabbits like you and AZ Rabbits. Anybody can raise meat rabbits for God sake. But when you go for genetic order, see ya,.

K

BTW, I let Dr Joe, My MEAT RAISING Rabbit VET know you don't think he raised his rabbits, that put him THROUGH college, right. He'll get a giggle out of that.

Ms. Research,

I think you are taking AZ's comments all out of context. It does not matter to me if you want to feed your rabbits differently than I do, or anyone else. I was simply stating what I have learned and heard from other well known breeders, authors and rabbit researchers. And I don't just raise MEAT rabbits...I raise pedigreed, purebred Californian and Rex rabbits that are sold to other breeders and to folks that show. I just happen to also use them for meat. I never said that your vet was raising his rabbits wrong, in fact, I never said anything about your vet at all. If your rabbits do well on a Timothy based pellet, then that is great. Mine do great on an alfalfa based pellet. Can we agree to disagree on this without the snarky comments?

It's difficult for good, sincere individuals (like Ms. Research) who are wanting to get correct answers to know who to believe and who not to believe... This is in no way meant as an attack or accusation toward anyone. Just advice for those out there that are looking for correct information about raising rabbits.

I've gotten valuable information from both of them ON THE INTERNET. That's why I was shocked by their past posts. I'm not trying to say "HEY I KNOW IT ALL", but at least don't smack me down for trying to help. The "only have a few rabbits as pets" comment was the key.

But you are right.
Ms. Research. I'm sorry if I offended you. That was definitely not my intention. Those who know me know that I truly enjoy helping others with information about rabbits and go out of my way to do what I can for them. You have some great recommendations and you've obviously done some research and know some great things about raising rabbits. In my post I mentioned you because you have mentioned that you do a lot of online research. I was talking TO everyone (yourself AND myself included) and not ABOUT anyone specifically. I know you have a vet friend (which I never said didn't raise rabbits... not sure where you got that idea), but you're not the only one that mentions talking to their vet about raising rabbits. I have heard many talk about their vet's advice when their vets don't know what they're talking about other then basic "pet" information. Being a vet makes one know about raising rabbits as much as a family doctor knows about exercise science and optimal nutrition. They don't unless they have experience aside from the medical field. That's not the focus of their educational training (I work in Master's level Exercise Science education so this is something I face a lot... we have doctors as students and it's surprising how little some of them know of the human body beyond medicine).

My point was that as we (myself included) look for answers on the Internet, be careful and make sure there is wisdom in the advice we take action on, coming from a source that makes sense. That's not just for raising rabbits, but on every subject out there. Most information on the net is incorrect on most any subject you choose. I was trying to be helpful but obviously was not good at putting my thoughts on paper...

Again, I'm sorry if I offended and failed to write my thoughts clearly on the thread. I have nothing but respect for you and enjoy reading your posts.

Very true. But anybody can be a parent too. That doesn't make you a good one. NOT everyone that raises meat rabbits does it optimally, nor efficiently. I came here not only to hear different points of view and learn some things, but help those getting started get some correct information (the information I know). You'll never find me posting on Lionhead, Angora and Dwarf threads because I know NOTHING about them. Therefore I stick to what I do know... meat rabbits. That is my expertise. And serious meat rabbit raisers have to know a lot because optimal health, production, size, etc. are the backbone of success. Being casual about it is fine for casual meat production, but will result in failure for the serious breeder. Every ounce, every lost kit, every lost day and every less-than-optimal health of breeding does is a huge loss for serious meat breeders (as well as many specialty breeders). But then again, that's according to me writing on the Internet. I could be totally making all this up and maybe don't know a thing about them.... long live the Internet! ;)

I give up. Everything I write is being taken the wrong way.
I'll just duck out by saying that I'm sorry once again and I had no intentions of being snarky, rude or accusatory.

Sorry for the thread drift.

Please don't duck out. I happen to like ducks. lol

Your intentions were without a doubt very noble. And what you have brought to this forum with your posts, your generosity of showing your set up shows where your intentions are at. Believe me, though I research (on the Internet and other sources, including people, is where I get my information), I learned a long time ago to not take it all to heart. To take everything with a grain of salt, to read between the lines. Like a lot of people who come to this forum read the information posted. I understand about information and what bad and what's not.

Though I might be slowly getting into small rabbits, something maybe you might get to know through my posts, I am very serious. Nothing casual about it. Never casual about anything I've raised.

Yes the nutrition of your rabbit is important. No doubt about it. I hope you continue to share your experience with others who will raise meat rabbits in large productions successfully. The casual ones can benefit too. And regarding stock and casual breeders hurting real breeders, again you got do do your homework when you purchase. People might miss the boat thinking casual breeders do not have good stock. You are not being fair to casual breeders. Someone like me.

Wishing you continued success.

Oh wow, where did all of this come from.I do read allot on the internet as that is the most available place for me. When i can get a hold of a good breeder , LEt me tell ya, i talk there ears off with lots of questions. More i talk to different breeders ,More i relize that my method is better for me. I seam to only change a few little changes here and there. But those small changes make a big differences. Like adding acv to the water. It was a small step. But i see now that it was really a big one. If i wasnt reading on post like byh, I wouldnt of known that. You dont get that on the internet just lurking unless you join a forum. I have learned allot from reading other post.
But i dont believe everything i read on the internet and goes for the vets. Well that is a different story around here. I just would go there. :)
