If I'm giving fluids SQ I always give at least 100cc's LRS. Usually closer to 200cc's on an adult. It'll absorb slowly and keep them hydrated for longer- I don't think 15-30ccs will really make an impact unless you're giving fluids several times daily.

Yesterday, we injected 5cc penicillin in Callie and the vet finally came an hour later. We quarantined Callie in a chicken pen (the chickens had to move out) and the vet gave her an injection of Banamine and also of Nuflor. Today we gave her an injection of Nuflor as well, and will continue for 5 days or so. Last night, Callie was drinking for sure and eating OK. She ate some willow leaves, a little Chaffhaye, and was eating chicken feed that had been left on the ground. I tried to scrape as much feed up as possible but there is still some left. Today, her highest temperature was 103.4 F and her lowest was 103.0 F, so we did not give her the Banamine. She did not drink much, so we drenched her with Pedialite. Her appetite is not what it was a few days ago, but she is eating a fair amount. Maybe that's not a bad thing in some ways, as the vet said she was a bit overweight... Anyway, we will look for symptoms of pneumonia in our other 3 goats, and if any signs show up, we will treat them with Penicillin.
Thank you so much for your help. I will let you know how Callie and the other goats are doing.

You can put a salt block next to her water to encourage drinking, they especially seem to love licking on the red salt blocks for cattle and they aren't very expensive.
I have had better luck with this than loose minerals with a goat off feed and not feeling well. also encourages them to stand up for a

Just spilled my coffee all over the keyboard. hope it keeps working.

Glad she is doing better. I am sure she will be feeling better in a few days.

Try some Magic drench on her. NOt sure how big she is, but I give my 100 lb does 6 to 8 ounces of the mixture that I mentioned in an earlier thread.

Nuflor is awesome stuff....

A shot of B vitamin and some probiotics would be what I'd do next. Good luck w/ her.:)

The larger amounts still absorb slowly and you'd have to give far more than 200ccs to create issues with abscessing so it's very much safe to do so. If you check on her every 3 hours or so you can check the "camel hump" and replace the fluids when you see they've absorbed.

Thanks will keep that in mind for the future. Your not giving that all in one spot are you? I always thought you had to disperse the sites giving 15 or 20cc per site. Atleast that is what we have done the couple of times we have given sub-q. It is probably something we should do more often and not wait until the goat is in really bad shape.
