I have been looking everywhere for a good breeder that is in Arizona or Can ship to Arizona for a jersey, or a mini jersey or a jey-lo. Does anyone have any info or know where I can go to be directed? I even thought about seeing if I can use a surrogate cow to raise a jersey embryo. But I have heard it is REALLY expensive. whats your thoughts?

thnx

I have a Jer-Low heifer, breeding age, in N. California (nr Santa Rosa, CA). You can see her at TheHeritageFarm.com.

She's a sweet one, is halter broke, and an easy keeper. She has the frame of a jersey, but the color of a Lowline. She's midsize.

I recently put a deposit down on a mini-jersey heifer calf for 2012.
I found the following breeders with mini and mid-sized jersey calves for sale on my search.

mbfarviewfarm.com
minijerseysbydexter.homestead.com
southsidestables.com/Cattle.htm
miniaturejerseyforsale.com
sureshotcattle.com
hickoryridgefarms.org

Most of them ranged between $2500 and $4500 per calf.
I contacted a few others that were already full and forming waiting lists.
I'm excited to be in line for a calf and am already planning my trip to go and pick her up next spring/summer (4 hrs each way for me!)

It would be great if there were a mini-jersey thread of all members getting their first mini jersey in 2012.
I looked around and see if there were any bred heifers or mini jersey cows anywhere and found absolutely nothing. I think the market is too hot for them right now that it doesn't make sense for breeders to sell older cows/heifers.

Please let me know if anybody reserves one for next year! Best of luck :)

There was also a breeder in Sonoma county CA which is closer to you than the links I listed.
sonomalittlecattle.com/
Don't know about their availability since they were far from me and I didn't inquire.

I'm coming west with my calf next June from PA to UT. I heard of people shipping slightly older calves in large dog kennels on airplanes for a few hundred bucks too.

You might try going to the state fair during the days the dairy cattle are competing. For Youth (4H) that's Oct 27-30 and for Open that's Nov 3-6. Even if no one there has anything for (future) sale, the 4H families should be able to tell you where they got theirs. Maybe not minis but Jerseys, surely?

We haven't gone to the fair at the right times before but this year I looked up the dates for the livestock and we're going!
