We just started this past year. One for us and we are selling the other by quarters. Got so use to them being around that it's going to be hard when they go to the butcher.
We also just got started last year with our beefers, Scottish Highlands. We're mainly breeding and selling, but will keep bull calves to butcher. We don't have enough land to really go all out like some can...at most we can keep about six animals (which when you're raising a bull calf for two years prior to butchering, means careful management).
Yeah, I know what you mean, amy. Animal management can be tough. I'm having a little trouble with keeping my pastures managed. Too many animals and not enough paddocks.
Scottish Highlands... Never heard of them. Can you post pics?
Thats Snuffy. Also known as Mumma Snuff. She is such a good cow, and a great mother. The only thinkg I don't like, is her ability to walk though electric fence and not feel it (or care, not sure which).
So easy going, and not freaky at all (like the angus). She is a wonderfull cow.
Llama, they say with sheep that the wool insulates them from the shock of an electrified fence, so I'm not surprised to hear that Snuffy is able to do the same thing with all that hair. Or any Highlanders like her.
