Kitty Foreman seems more and more like Red Foreman. I certainly wasn't HOPING for roosters, but if there's only one, we'll find away to make the best of it.

Wood County northest TX here. White Dorper sheep on 15 high fenced acres of Bermuda and Bahia pasture. 3, soon to be 4, Anatolian livestock guardian dogs. 30 acres Bermuda and Bahia hay leased to neighboring cattle rancher. I buy my hay from him. Saves cost of haymaking implements and he advises on pasture health. Good all around.
Still working on moving permanently to TX. I had knee surgery in CA, DH has to return for cataract surgery. DS2 and DIL will rent California house. DS1 currently running sheep ranch and improvements to ranch.

Wood County is a great area! Close to the City, but not too close. Convenient to First Monday Trade Days. The land begins to roll a bit and the horizon gets closer.... So Pretty!!! And the wildflowers!!!! Don't get me started....

What is First Monday Trade Days?
Yantis is a great location for us since we are in our Prime.
5 minutes to Yantis (post office, bank and the best breakfast coffee shop in Texas); 10 minutes to Sulphur Springs cattle auction (good restaurant on auction days); 15 minutes to Sulphur Springs NE Tx CoOp, Lowes, Walmart, TSC, Atwoods, good Urgent Care, etc., large animal vet, 2 other feed and hardware stores, and our church; 15 minutes to Quitman (County seat, property taxes, DMV); 20 minutes to Emory sheep and goat auction; and for big stuff 1.5 hour to Dallas, 1.5 hours to Shrevesport (to sightsee), 1.5 hour to Tyler, easy access to 20 and 30 highways. 1 hour to Wylie where DD2 just settled (Ross, Costco, mall, all kinds of chain stores). 5 minutes to Wednesday Bible Study & potluck just up the road. Oh yes! and 10 minutes to the dump. LOL
If you like to fish for giant bass and other fishing tournaments, 10 minutes to Fork Lake! LOL
Now if we can ony finish our move there . . . .

First Monday is a huge open air flea market in Canton which is in Van Zandt County. I think that's the next County south of you... Maybe South West. When I say "huge" I mean that some say it's the biggest of it's kind on Earth. It takes place starting the Thursday before the first Monday of every month, but doesn't include Monday. Whatever you are into someone is selling it at First Monday.
As far as I am aware, Lake Fork still holds a few Bass records. I've only been there once. you 're not toooo far from Lake Tawakani (I may have spelled that wrong) to the West and Lake o' the Pines to the East.

Canton trade days is 400 acres. @Ridgetop once y’all are finally “here” and recovered from surgeries, we will go. We will park in the back where there is a tractor pulled train that cruises the vast parking lot and takes people to the back gate. We will call ahead and reserve an electric cart to ride on so yall don’t get tired from all the walking. There are lots of outdoor booths and lots of big huge covered pavilions. When your family discovers Trade Days, they will ALL follow y’all to Texas!
