    Cost to raise a litter

I did a little bit of research online and was amazed at the disparity of prices for rabbit meat. Anywhere from about $4.00 # to $15.00 # So I guess it all depends on market and availability in the area.

    Cost to raise a litter

Very interesting info. I was told just this week that rabbit meat is selling for up to $16.95# Quite a profit. But of course I noticed you didnt include anything for your labor or equipment. Still seems like you have made quite a profit.

    Brining your rabbits

I have only been cooking rabbit for a few months and I dont brine. I cooked several rabbits before I knew that brining was an option. As long as I let the meat rest for a day or two before I cook or freeze it I get tender tasty meat . So now im not sure I understand the need for an extra step.

    NZW Bucks are turning brown

Do they have runny stools? Once in a while one of my bucks looks a little tan on his back feet and legs but never had one get matted hair unless they had diarrhea.

    End of rabbit season?

I'm out in the country so I deal with mice in my barns and in my rabbitry. Never ending battle but I only use traps. Rat poison dehydrates the rat and it goes a bit crazy before it dies. It can end up dying right out in the open. The problem with this for me is my dogs. Eating a dead rat or...

    End of rabbit season?

I read on this forum somewhere that frozen stone tiles are great to help keep bunnies cooler. Rabbits chew holes in frozen water bottles andthey thaw quickly. But stone floor tiles stay cold for a longer time. Im thinking of getting some to try in this record heat.

    Multiplying babies!

Lol. It can be difficult to count new buns especially if the doe is not interested in allowing you to rummage thru her nest. Congrats on your litter.

new outlet for overflow of buns

I know how lucky I am to have this wonderful vet caring for my menagerie. She is country through and through. Lives right down the road from me and even came over one night in her pajamas to help with an emergency. Have another vet in our little country community that I wouldnt give two cents...

new outlet for overflow of buns

My vet rescues and rehabs many types of wild animals . Today I traded her ten 12 week old buns for dental work on one of my dachshunds. She will use the meat to feed owls and a bobcat she is caring for. Worked out great for me as I overbred last winter and could not get all buns harvested in...

    Calf Manna

I dont know for sure but it seems to make sense that higher protein content would build stronger muscles. If thats true then maybe the secret to the calf manna is a balance between good nutrition for doe while pregnant and nursing and too much protein for kits to produce desired tenderness on table.

    Calf Manna

I feed calf manna to my pregnant does and continue till kits are weaned but dont feed any to kits once they are weaned. I free feed the kits till they are 12 weeks and headed to freezer camp.

how do i know that a mating was successful?

I agree that you might want yo put the nesting ox in on day 28. I learned the hard way that sometimes the breeding got done so quickly that you wouldn't think it happened. Bettrr safe than sorry.
