    My new Kids Boer-Alpine mix

Thanks. Phoebe is one of my favorites. Funnily enough, I was going to get rid of my Boer doe because Willow kept smacking into Phoebe, hard. I like Willow, but I haven't gotten too attached to her yet because she was a rescue, given to me a couple of months ago. Willow is twice the size of...

Surprise! Unexpected boer babies Need help

Cross posting. No problem. I was a farm hand on a goat farm for a year with an ex bf. I got rid of the bf, but love of goats remained.

Surprise! Unexpected boer babies Need help

Mama has been giving them plenty of colostrum on her own, just fine. I've had kids born to me before. I would rather the mama give them as much first milk possible as it gives them a chance to bond. The baby bellies are nice and full and they are urinating.

Surprise! Unexpected boer babies Need help

I am just so used to kids being born in the spring and summer. So far they seem to be fat and happy. I am pretty worried that it will change when they get older since there is quite a difference in milk and meat goats. Thanks for the replies, I know I am being pretty paranoid.

Surprise! Unexpected boer babies Need help

My alpine-mix doe that I bought in milk 4 months ago, just birthed a triplet set of boers. I certainly wasn't expecting that! Will they need extra milk? Mum is only half the size of my boer doe. I am considering bringing them indoors. The weather will get to around 40f tonight. Am I being...

    AZ Tucson - Boer Goat

I have a boer goat that needs to be rehomed. She was given to me as a pet and I would prefer her to remain one. She is a piglet and bullies my miniature goats to steal all of their food. I think she would be better off with other goats her size. $75 or OBO. I don't know much about her and she...

    Sneaky whether breeding does?

So, I guess I won't really know unless I see my Mini Alpine giving birth to Mini Alpine-Manchas?

    Sneaky whether breeding does?

I have a whether that I am a little suspicious of. He doesn't smell goaty and he was castrated very early. Yet, I think he may be breeding. He is constantly mounting. Is it possible for a whether to breed? I'm hoping I'm being paranoid.

    Fly control that pays YOU

I have 4 guineas and 6 chickens, all free range. I still have a ton of flies. :( Nothing seems to get rid of the horrid things.

    Fodder Feeds?

No pasture at all and the goats have devoured anything edible already. A dairy goat farmer I sold a couple of goats to, mentioned sowing some bird seed as pasture. I may try that.

    How to not get attached?

Goat meat is delicious, but I tend to get attached to my animals. Babies are too freaking cute. I also don't think I could kill anything. I know I need to get over it. What are your tips for staying detached?

How do y'all keep the goat-i-ness out of goat milk (and cheese)?

Get a Toggenburg. Their milk is extremely goaty. I couldn't drink it, but the cheese was sublime.

    Feeding Time!

Nice! I was wondering if this would work. I have seen it with several sprouted grains like barley. What do you use?

    Fodder Feeds?

Has anyone grown their own fodder feed? http://tucson.craigslist.org/grd/3362962615.html I'm wondering how gimicky this is. I don't think I will go the above route, but I am thinking of trying something similar.

The physics, alone, boggles the mind

I'm still trying to figure out how to breed my tiny Nigerian Dwarf to my Miniature goats. We call him Mighty Theseus, because we have high hopes for him. I hope he doesn't fall short. Phoebe is pretty tiny but is still twice his size. Beatrice is three times his size. I know it is possible...

What are your goats' names and why?

Mine are all Shakespearean names. Puck (La Mancha) and Theseus (Nigerian Dwarf) from A Midsummer's Night Dream Beatrice (Mini-LaMancha) from Much Ado About Nothing and Phoebe (Mini-Alpine) is from As You Like It.
