Went to my sister’s today. I took things out to the garage. We went to lunch, she didn’t eat much yesterday. Contractor came by. He’s coming back tomorrow after insurance adjuster leaves to load up appliances that are dead. I carried more stuff to garage. She has plant stands everywhere, they went out on the covered deck. Going back tomorrow with boxes, wrapping materials and take glassware out of display cabinets and wrap/box them up.

What a job. But you have a lot of experience with packing and moving so . . . . Maybe she should start thinking about moving her living space to the second story of the house. She could convert the bottom story into a large, covered patio with outdoor cooking facilities and bathroom. Use all tile and concrete.

She already has a large covered outdoor area. Her covered deck has more square feet than my house. At one time it had an outdoor kitchen but they didn’t put it back after hurricane Harvey, that put 7 feet of water in the house and washed away even the brick, leaving nothing but the studs. She has more flood experience than I ever want to have.

I was worried about her this time because her husband died several years ago and she is on her own. Her son is very good to her and she has good friends that have helped her too.

She is handling this well. She is in full swing now and I’m not worried about her now.

Beautiful sunny day! I slept late, ewes are at their gate wanting to go to the new field. LOL Just finished first cup of coffee, I’ll get outside and do chores, make animals happy and come back in for second cup of coffee.

Going to get more rain Saturday, one or two inches. Really don’t need it but oh well. I’ve got to round up my chick supplies, picking up 40 meat chicks on Wednesday.

Ugh. Hard last few days. Had a colonoscopy today. No food Wednesday or Thursday, only water, white grape juice and apple juice. I could have broth. Just happened to have chicken and beef bone broth, both of which I raised and canned. Last night a drank 2 bottles of nasty stuff, guaranteed to roto rooter me in a most unpleasant experience.

Got a good report at hospital, don’t have to do that again for 10 years. Maybe never. My friend took me, sat all day, BORING,. We had Chinese buffet and she brought me home. I did chores.

Going to storm tonight and most of tomorrow. Expect 1to 2 inches of rain. Y’all got any idea just how thrilled I am about that?

I know that things are not ideal for the sheep, but bite your tongue about the rain... you went 2 months or more last year with no rain and feeding hay and almost couldn't find hay you could afford... this is excessive rain to a point... but it is also trickling down into the lower ground water and replenishing that and further down into the aquifers that supply the wells and such....... It ought to give a good first cutting of hay that you will need to procure so that you aren't scrambling like when you first got things moved there... and hopefully will get a good growth of grass going so you can rotate and hopefully stockpile enough to have a much longer grazing season....
It has been muddy as all get out here, with alot less rain than you have had and we all gripe a little about getting around... but we have just come out of drought status, and we are only "a month away from drought status" again, if we don't continue to get some rain/precipitation, even when it causes lots of mud and problems getting around this time of year.
Better too much rain than no rain.... to a point....

You are right @farmerjan. My project this year is a 70’x20’ three sided barn and a stockpile of hay. I’m going to be scrambling to find some hay to finish out the winter. I have 5 bales left and a bale lasts them 10 days. Even when the grass comes in, they still hit the hay. I think it’s because the new grass is full of water and they need that dry bulk of the hay. Plus I’ve never had enough grass and had to offer hay to make up the difference all year. Having this front field under fence sure does help. The back field is the largest and has the best grass, it also has the worst fence. LOL

I have 15 ewes due in March and April. By that time I’ll have the lambs born in December and January weaned and separated.

I’ll also be looking to sell at least one ewe, I now have 3 daughters out of her, second generation in the breed up program. I have one granddaughter out of her, third generation. She carries a heavy thatch of wool on her back from her Dorper grandfather. It’s Frimplepants and she will have to go to a special home, I’m kinda attached to her. It makes it harder because one of the last pictures I have of BJ was when I had her in the chute, shearing off that wool and he had a chair drawn up, petting her and talking baby talk to her to keep her calm.

OK, I had to go find that picture and post it. It’s a hard decision to let her go, but as I get better offspring closer to my goal of a registered flock, I have to let go of the older ewes that are good ewes but far from my goal. Gheesh, why do these decisions have to be so tough. I’ll probably just breed her to Rocky and give her to my neighbor Chase, like I gave him Eve and Lucy. Lucy gave him triplets and Eve gave him twins. They are loved and cherished, spoiled with treats by the family.
