Feeding sheep. There are 7 pregnant ladies in this group. Plus some young ewes that aren’t ready for a boyfriend.

This is an every day thing.

The Piranhas.

In an effort to spread out the feed so everyone can eat, I have two small tubs that I put feed in. It MUST be BETTER than what’s in the feed bunk, so they run to get there first. In the nanosecond it takes for me to pour feed, they stick their greedy heads in the way so feed splatters everywhere but in the pan.

Then I move to the other pan and they run to that one too.

Then one sweet ewe who doesn’t fight for a bite, You got anything for me?

Meanwhile back at the feed bunk……,

15 ewes with Cooper, only 2 are not bred yet. Nora, triplet daughter of Miranda and Ringo and Aerial, registered daughter of BTX 1901 and Ringo.

I’m on baby watch. P-15 Granny by name, of White Dorper, Texas Five fame, was due yesterday according to a 145 day gestation table. In my experience, ewes go 147 days, so it could be tonight, tomorrow night, or since I need to be gone on Friday, she will most likely cross her legs and back up to a post to keep babies from popping out, until the day I’m gone! AAAARRRRGGGHHH!!!!

Granny is huge and grunts softly with every breath. She could relieve hers of all this misery and go ahead and lamb tonight! Or now would also be fine…….

I went to a ladies lunch today, had a good time. 5 church ladies and we talked and laughed for hours. Got home at 4, came in, changed clothes and mixed up dog food.

I fed dogs and heard some hard grunting going on! Granny had one hoof and a nose sticking out. I found the other foot and pulled. Soon baby was on the ground and Granny took off. Great. I cleared the face and made sure it was breathing, then I ran for towels to scrub the baby dry. I came back and Granny was licking her baby and making those soft rumbling noises that ewes make to their lambs. The lamb was standing a few moments later and looking for something to eat.

I took a Quick Look, pretty sure it’s a ewe! I sat out there for 2 hours, I don’t think Granny is having another lamb. This lamb is big!

I moved my appointment to Monday, afraid to be gone all day tomorrow. It’s ok, I can make sure mom and baby are doing good., all weekend!

Congrats on the new lamb.... and the "save".... could've been not so good if you hadn't have been able to pull it. Very glad Granny came back to take care of it on her own. I take it she is not very "people oriented".... a single healthy, on it's feet, nursing, beats any twins that don't make it or something else tragic.
