I’ll be gone this weekend. Meeting @Margali in Weatherford Friday evening for a Katahdin sheep seminar Saturday. I’ll be home probably late Saturday night. That kennel is a good place to leave Mr. Buford to keep him out of trouble while I’m gone.

There was a huge oak in the yard that covered that kennel in cooling shade, along with one by the driveway, both died last summer along with several others and I had them taken down.
Have fun you two!!

Sun came out this afternoon, what a welcome sight!
I took this picture out in the field. That’s Ewenique on the right. She’s 9 years old and my first sheep. Her 3 month old daughter, Jet, is the black ewe lamb on the left. In the middle is Ewenique’s granddaughter, Frimplepants.

Soooo...old farm had precious little grass, less water issues but, occasional. Mostly runoff with erosion losses. Here -- you can learn to control this water! 👍 Just LOVE THAT GRASS!!! 💕🥰

With herd goals, you'll need it. Seasonally it will be tough a couple years but, watch the flow while it's here and you will be able to work it. Ditches. Ponds. Maybe another pond dug for water retention can provide fill dirt for barn....a BOGO of sorts. 🤣

I walk the fields during and after rains. I’m out there getting wet anyway. LOL I’m planning swales to retain more water and slow the flow. There are 2 ponds already. This past summer, they nearly dried up, but the stored water released water to the surrounding ground, watering the grass. There were green patches in the two pastures.

The sheep have been on this middle field since August 29 of last year. Plenty of grass and forbs. I’m looking forward to getting more fence up for more grass. I believe this place can carry 30-50 ewes. I have 22 ewes, 3 keeper ewe lambs and Cooper the ram.

Eve appears to be in labor. She has been so miserable, maybe when I get back from church, there will be lambs!

Twins! Boy and girl. Boy will be cut, named Dinner and be freezer meat. Son in law wants 2. LOL Girl is named Easter and will join the flock. Eve and lambs are now in the small pen. I lured big fat Lucy in the pen too, she is due in a few days.

Buford barked at the babies, I scolded, he wrinkled up his face in a toothy grin. He is now sitting at the fence, staring at them. Fascinated. Protect? Play? Eat? Who knows, it’s Buford.

I forget how many acres do you have? My 10pack churned thru 0.2acre in a day. :oops:I just moved them into 0.4acre of browse and hope it holds them awhile.
