Been busy with life, moved from central to east Texas; brought the goats along, added ducks and now have teenage chickens...well, they aren't babies and aren't grown

Good morning!
We have been very busy here at Rusty Acres with growing our mob of emus! We have 2 chicks that have hatched and are healthy and 14 eggs still in the incubator.
We are up to 15 adults with 1 blonde yearling who we hope to mate with a standard this next year!

We have such a wonderful community here at BYH, but we know life gets busy, so I was thinking it would be fun to start a thread welcoming some of our herd-loving-friends we haven't seen in a while.

Thanks for reaching out. We went from a herd of 5 to a herd of 30. They keep multiplying! Imagine that!
Now looking to get back down as we don't have the land to support this many.
We added a new member last fall. She's a Gulf Coast native breed. Who's now bred to our katadhin ram.

Hey, been busy. I'm waiting on my last doe to kid and she may or may not be pregnant so that's driving me batty. I'm milking 2 others to reduce the amount of Jersey milk I'm buying to feed the 3 bottle babies I wasn't supposed to have. (One doe isn't making enough milk for her 3). I'm trying to get another 2 does recovered from hypocalcemia that I unfortunately learned about this year. I'm realizing I'm going to have to test my herd of 11 if I want to sell my babies anywhere but at auction. That's expensive.

Kinda stressed out. But thanks for asking.

Hi Nifty! We have been busy since we started our first homestead in 2010. We originally started a small hobby farm with just chickens on barely 5 acres and 3 children. Since then, we moved to a new state, "upgraded" our acreage from 5 to 30 and have slowly expanded what we have and what we do, and increased our family from 3-9 now, too. LOL. We currently have our 2 beautiful milking ND goats (Honey & Pipsqueak or Pipi for short), their stinky studs (Zink & Sheamus), and our grow out weathers meant for freezer camp at the end of the summer (Spot, Chewy, & Oliver). Along with our goats, we have meat rabbits (Bella, Tasha, JackJack, and their kits set to be processed at the end of the summer as well), 2 guard geese (Helen & Angela), 10 assorted ducks, 20 assorted chickens and a desire for MORE! haha.
We are starting an orchard and we have expanded our garden to be triple what it was last year. We are learning about a new growing zone (went from 7-9) and experimenting with growing an abundance of medicinal as well as culinary herbs in addition to our regular vegetables and fruits. My long term goal is to get our back 20 acres fenced in to let the goats have more access to browse as that area is all wooded with a beautiful creek running through it. For the front pastures, my long term goal is to get sheep & alpacas for fibre (I want to spin/dye my own wool and then teach myself to knit for I already crochet) for the one side and a milk cow with maybe a few steer for beef for the other and to have a rotational grazing system set up. In order for that to work, we need to be able to bring water to the pastures (no one wants to haul buckets in 100+ weather, right? lol) For the garden area, we would then further develop the orchard and fruit garden, while expanding to be able to grow most of our produce that we consume in a year. Finally, I'd love to get pasture pigs where we can then harvest them for meat and lard while having a system set up that we can do all of the processing on site to lessen the stress they would go through. No matter what happens, we have a LOT to learn still.
