More rain till early afternoon. Puts off outside stuff.😔

Looking for entertainment, and fresh veggies, went to produce auction last night. Came home with over 60# for only $19. Great buy at about 30cent a pound. Guess I have something to do inside, during showers.👍🙄. All I wanted was tomatoes. Too expensive for me to buy. Did get 6 pints of cherry type. I got deals on some things, ya know how auctions go! Most things much, much higher $.

Overall the green beans & tomatoes went @ $65-70 a bushel. Green peppers about $50. 50 piece bags of corn $23-27 Squash -- yellow & zuc, that we throw to animals with so many! -- $50-60 bushel. Shaking my head, eyes wide, thinking how glad I over produced & over canned last year. Gardening pays.

So I'm blanching Cauli, broccoli, & Brussels...35ish pounds. Doing 17# eggplant, snacking on 6 pint cherry tomato & 4 pt blueberries. Freezer fillers 😁🤣 Gotta work in a haircut apptmt @11:30. Full day! I want to pickle some Cauli.🤔

My figs aren't quite done in dehydrators, but will be today. Samples taste great 😂. Having couple pieces and some blueberries with coffee. ☺️

I used to LOVE going to a local produce auction .. in Courtland I think? I'd come home with a truck LOAD of goodies and usually spent less than $100. Problem was that it was always on Thursday night & wasn't over until 11:00 or so... so the nearly hour drive home and then getting all those goodies safely stored until the weekend had me DRAGGING all day Friday.
It seemed to me that the folks who had produce stands/farmers market booths discovered it and would drive the prices SKY HIGH on a whole pallet just to get a few choice items that they wanted to re sell. Then the auction would re-sell the left over pallet again and again until it was finally gone - leaving the least desirable for us folks who were looking for bulk food to can or freeze.
Funny note.. when I first started going I had never bid at an auction before and I out bid myself - several times - and bought an entire pickup load of pumpkins by accident!!!! The church 'pumpkin patch' for the kids had PLENTIFUL choices that year! 🤣

@canesisters --- same auction!! Same situation. But these were things with a few "defects" that a knife fixes 😂 BUT they don't want for resale. A home use canner can get deals. I did 👍 now a day of work to storage. It was over about 8:30 last night. Yep, for resale they pay more. The eggplant was cheap because so much had been sold aisles over. It very fresh! I've been trimming some sunburn spots, outer leaves. Perfect veg after that.

Wow, come again!! Still on Thurs night, yep Courtland. 🤣

All day rain. Cleaning boxes of veg...ready to start blanching. 😁 Started early, then left for haircut, lunch with friend, back to work veg again. Removed figs that were done, left others to finish. Will start a 2nd batch tonight. Geeesh, empty frig with milk, eggs & figs out.

Been eating fresh, raw, crunchy veg all day. Won't cook a meal tonight. No need. 👍 Probably have desert though😁

Coffee is ready. We hauled 26 round bales yesterday. I’ll buy hay from this guy next year. Son put augur on tractor but may not be able to drill holes for posts. Ground is concrete hard. We are going to try, but may have to wait on rain. Can’t drive a Tpost in the ground right now. Plus his augur is 4”, posts are 7”

Fen let me sleep in until 5:30, although my back and hip kept me up all night so it hardly feels like a boone. He got some sardines with his breakfast and is eating his bowl. I think he liked them. No coffee yet, need a nap first so I can ride today ❤️
