Hm, hadn’t thought about salt. I wonder if it would be bad to have salty ground. I imagine they aren’t eating much dirt there anyway and if it tasted salty they would stop, right? (For when this is over and they can free range again.)
A lot of people put it everywhere to no harm to the little wild birds. I may be putting some actual defrosting salt at the back door after the warm up then re-freeze. The ground is naturally salty to what extent depends on the ground. Lots of places horses and cattle will paw and dig to like the salt out of the ground, other places it gets dug out of THE GROUND. You put out salt licks or salt blocks for livestock. So, I'm gonna say it's safe. Disclaimer I'm not a licesened (I know spelt, wrong brain not working) vet. But I wouldn't suggest anything I haven't seen work for several decades or that doesn't make since to me.
Above freezing tomorrow 35.

Schools and banks and govts announced that they were closed today. But Ice Storm was delayed until 5.

Watched a small pickup roll backwards down our hill. He then went sideways into a large wide driveway down below and then a few min later, saw him leaving our road for the main road. No mail today. No trash pick up tomorrow. Very unusual for here.

After two seasons of motherhood the wench has decided she wants no part of it. Rebreeds slowly too. I truly thought she would raise them properly. I knew I shouldn’t have left that Gloria Steinem book in the barn :hide
Am I guessing that this ewe will be leaving the farm?

Woke early...a nap and early to bed made for too much snooze. I'd love to jump in a hot shower but that's not a good idea before plunging into 19/feels14 temps to feed.🥴. Especially after washing my hair. Wouldn't that be a frozen mess!? 😖

Sooo, I'll heat some of last nights split pea soup for breakfast -- have my coffee and watch the news. Then dress heavy for feed chores. Pretty sure I'll need to break ice this morn. 🥶🥶. Daylights an hr away 🫤 I'll plug in trough heaters and run them overnight tonight👍

I hear ya’ @Mini Horses it’s going to get above freezing today. I’ll turn water back on, check for busted pipes and TAKE A SHOWER. Somehow a bath with a wash rag and bowl of water just isn’t very satisfying. It’s going to drop back to 20 at night this weekend but above freezing during the day.
Winter can go away now.

Already in the 20s here, feels like a heat wave.
Got apple cider and Red Bull this morning, been working doubles at work. Market Steers are showing today.
I got a question for y’all, does anyone know what the sun looks like? I’m not sure I know the last time I’ve seen it.
Have a blessed day.

I had 1*.... yes 1 degree.... on the recording thermometer for a low... already up to 15 whole degrees... BUT... the sun is out... that is a plus.
Hung the bird feeder out for them before the snow and had to brush off the snow yesterday so they could find the seeds. Sure hope they start to use it.. only partially filled it due to expected snow... will keep a watch so it doesn't run out. Got another "light" snow coming in Thursday night/Friday... then will probably fill it although temps are going to "warm up"... relatively, into the 30's and even low 40's....

Warm day today this morning so far, nice balmy 11°F and snowing, I might actually get some projects done. Not being cynical either, it is really warm compared to the -40°F we have been having with -65°F wind chill. My propane heater is now cycling and not running full blast.
