Well, @SageHill .... I have not done alot of studying on it. There has been talk... No dairies in this area are using it that I have heard of.
No where can I find out EXACTLY what it is... just an enzyme reducer so that the gases in the fermentation process do not combine to form methane.
There may have been a whole lot of studies done in dairies in Holland... and how much it is saving in methane reduction... but unless a dairy is totally closed in... like a farm that is under a closed super dome.... how can they actually be so "positive" about the reduced methane and how is it measured...

Personally, I would have to do some serious digging, and even to go to some kind of forum talks, things like that for dairies to find out about it... in order to better understand WHAT it is exactly... How it is made... and what effects it could have long term on cows.
I get tired of cows getting blamed for all this "greenhouse gas, climate warming" that they keep going on about... without taking into consideration all the mechanical advancements, over the years.

There could be something to it... but there are alot of things that might be contributing besides "cow BURPS". I think is part and parcel of the whole "decrease animals, and go to more plant based diet"....

But until I know more about it, and can actually find out WHAT actually makes up the ingredients that goes into it.
One thing I can find... one report says that a dose of 1/4 teaspoon per cow per day... another report is saying more along the line of 1 tbsp.... per cow per day.... One report says it will cost a couple pennies per gallon... so to break that down... Let's say $.03 per gallon... that's 8.4 lbs milk to a gallon...
to put that in round figures... milk is bought by dairy co-ops...... by 100 lbs... about 12 gallons per 100 lbs.
So, that is about $.36/100lbs of milk cost... Say a farmer is shipping 10,000 lbs every other day... That's a cost of $36/ per tank shipped... 15 tanks shipped a month...That's over $500 a month cost to the farmer... say he is milking 100 cows..... that is $5 per cow per month cost..... Yet they say it could generate over $20 per cow "income", per year... So that means you will be spending another $60 per year to make back $20.
Somehow that means it is going to be costing you ANOTHER $40 per cow per year... and you MIGHT get some "methane credits"... another one of those climate change controlled thing that can affect your ability to farm, to borrow money, all that sort of stuff....

I have little to no faith in the UN....like the WHO and some of those other "Health" organizations that told us how BAD covid was....

That's pretty much what I was thinking. To me, it's an added cost that is not needed. And long term effects as well as down the line - yeah, you get my drift. I don't think it's needed, it's just something that others want to impose on the industry. And those others being people who truly don't understand farming.

So day progressed poorly. Power crew came back to obliterate what they had missed. Ok I’ve dealt. Somewhere just south of the rainbow bridge a grove of birches showed up. I grew up in a place where a tree of any kind was a rare and wonderful thing. So I’m over attached. Am I a selfish mook who wants the neighborhood without power? Nope. But…. While I was considering how to present this humorously in a post and feeding sheep, Leo got his lower jaw caught in Caddo’s collar. This descended into a serious dog fight. I was too far away to stop it. So two chewed up dogs. They had played all day, the collar probably got tugged looser and Leo grabbed it (because when isn’t that funny if you’re Leo)- the tangle caused a panic fight and I couldn’t get there fast enough. No one is in trouble that I can see but trips to the vet look probable tomorrow. They both ate but are sleeping hard now.

Ah geeze - the worst kind of fight. Dang. Hope it's not too bad. I know your guys need to wear collars, tis the reason mine do not - but mine don't stay out with the sheep either.
Fingers crossed if it's a vet visit tomorrow that it's not too $$$$.

I’m rethinking collars. Or getting breakaways. Just a freak accident after a day off due to lambing. I was about to say this wouldn’t have happened if Crockett… You know Crockett was an outstanding dog And he studied Astro physics and wrote poetry in his spare time. All those equations on the barn wall…:p

Good morning. Awakened at 3:00am ish by dh. He needed my help, so on with the light. And then I couldn't fall back to sleep.

Before I left for work I broke about a quarter inch of ice on the water tub, and fished out the pieces before adding hot water. Zacchaeus muttered complaints from the roost. I ignored him.

So...I'm moving a bit slow this morning, sipping coffee and considering which urgent task 🙄 I should move to the top of the list for today.
