How many square feet will a mini split do? I’ve got 1400 sq ft. Afternoon sun bakes back side of house with 4 big windows. There’s film on the windows, it helps, radiant heat barrier under metal roof, it helps, but unit is a 1998 model, probably not worth fixing.
More now that I have unloaded everything, That unit from 1998 probably has R22 which is hard to get if it needs refrigerant, more than likely a blown capacitor if you had a meter and knew how to read µF on it and knew which tab is which between fan and the one that kicks the compressor on might save a few bucks.
If it is more than a capacitor such as needs new compressor, yeah best to update. Mini splits run on inverter technology which uses way less than that dinosaur, you can shut down the rooms you don't want to cool i.e. cool bedroom at night close the door and turn the rest of the house off. My place 432² ft is cooled by one 12k BTU unit it actually runs us out if not careful.
Another thing, mini splits can heat too, they just reverse the flow of refrigeration automatically.

At work, about to start the coffee. I volunteer because I spent many years working in diner/fast food. It made me appreciate starting clean, doing it right. And I like my coffee black & strong, adding one extra scoop "for the pot".

In for second cup. Nice weather so far. Feeding done, water tubs next...wash out those yellow rings! Gonna take my battery sprayer(full of water) along as I set fire to the short sprigs of stuff in the garden area....in case. Calm out. Hope entire day is this nice 🙂

Put fix-a-flat in front mower tire & drove around a while. Slow leak but, usually 1x in spring holds for summer. 🤷 It's the bead I think. Tread great & no leaks show up. Works this way. But that stuff has gotten expensive, too. Like everything 😞

I've canned fresh pork and ham this week, plus some added to freezer. Easter brings good prices -- these were 88-99 cents a lb. Of course, I'm in "Smithfield" country so we get pork without cross country transport prices 👍 Now I have a nice ham bone waiting to meet some beans

At least gas prices have dropped, some.

Slept like a log, but woke up just before the alarm. Heading to the main office now to brew The Coffee.

Glad you have cooling @Baymule.
Glad you have coffee at work expense @fuzzi ... And chickens look happy. Each roo has own harem 😁

Mid afternoon yesterday a frontal system blew in from somewhere...looked like a storm but no rain. Dark clouds, 25 mph winds blew through for 3-4 hrs. Then gone. 🥴😲 Surprise. Cooled down fast, too. About a 10* drop. Weird weather lately.

Enjoying my coffee and will get outside before long. May finish what winds interrupted yesterday.
