FYI - it's illegal to sell products made with dog hair. Probably one of those laws never enforced, but it's a good idea to not advertise or chat about it too much.
Federal law? Or in your local?

Federal. Stumbled upon it accidentally when reading up on what we could/could not cross the US/Canada border with.

Wow Thanks! That's recent too. I was thinking that I would never be able to find it again to prove that my statement is true! I bookmarked it because no one ever believes me.

I have two Jack Russells. One has a broken coat. I have used his wirey part to tie into my fishing flies. Just a thought.

No problem.

I always am skeptical when someone says "it's the law" ;)

Thought it was a good idea to post what I found - couldn't believe how recent it was.

Personally I see no problem using or selling dog fiber that is humanely removed and properly labeled. Buuuutttt....the bleeding hearts will always find a problem with it. Don't get me wrong, I think for the most part that animal rights activists do a good job of bringing inhumane treatments to light but sometimes they do some harm...like the activist that let 4,000 minks loose in Germany a couple of months back! What a disaster!

yes ... oh the activists ... have had more than one person cringe when I talk about "plucking" the English Angoras ... No it does not hurt, yes they release the coat naturally ... and one lady thought we had to kill them to get the fiber ... no not a pelt, wool ... but yes felt when it rains! i have heard it all through the years of working with English and Giants ... Oh but I do love the feel fo the fiber! And the kisses while grooming!

YES! I do think the problem comes with the misunderstanding that to get fiber you must kill the animal. Fiber DOES NOT = Pelt

I haven't had big reactions, I say it's just like brushing a shedding dog. Because it is!

I don't currently get fiber from any of my animals. Will start with the llama next spring. But the people that I know seem to be very anti fur / fiber even to the extent of wool! They just don't understand how the process works to gather fiber.
