I know she isn’t a steer but I do have a question..so hope it is ok

I have a heifer, she is a May We All Dec 2023 born

She’s currently on Purina Full Range but plan to switch her due to that not being available at my feed store anymore

and Should i be feeding 2 or 3% of her body weight?

I was told either Rival Bold or Base…

What’s better, pros cons etc. Want to get her to her full potential as she has TONS of it.

Any help would be appreciated!!

Thank you all

I think it might depend on what her breed is, what your plans for her are & the weather you're having.

My girl got pasture, hay & just enough plain'old sweet feed to train her to come to the barn 2x daily.
She's a jersey-angus X & was to grow up to become a backyard dairy cow. They need way more hay when it's really cold.

What breed , age, plans for her? With all livestock there's basically needs, then some require "more" for purpose -- be it handling, housing, feed, etc.

My goats get hands on training/taming for milking, hoof & body maintenance, going into stalls, on milk stands, special feeds & more of it, etc. If they were just goats raised in field, weaned kids to market -- they need far less specialized attention.

Skinny usually means not enough calories. Tested hay gives you feed value. Be sure she's been wormed. Increase grain feed volume slowly. Always vit/min available. Higher protein levels probably needed for results. Cattle will eat about 50# of good hay or combined rich pasture each day. More with cold. Have 24/7 availability. What kind of hay RU using? Not fescue.

Look at what she's getting, then consider what is needed. Buy excellent hay -- otherwise it's just "straw" to her, no nutrition.

Give us a picture.

Rival bold is only 12% protein. Go with much higher. Her coat is rough (beyond just winter fluff) and dull, she's pot bellied. Worm her, give more protein, increase amounts.

She's underfed for your hope & expectations, IMO.

As to what feed...no idea what's in your area, brand wise.
