Hello from a mini farm in SE WI!

Hello!

I've been a member for looks like 6 years? That was prior to me having a hobby farm, and just dreaming. Well in 2014 we bought our 4 acre property and it's fantastic. I love it. Yes, I wish I had more land, but I'm content with what I have.

Right now what I have is:
A dozen or so chicken, just for eggs no showing
1 tom(black) and 4 hen turkeys (Slates)- which are sitting on 40 eggs and I have no clue where I am going with these things.
A 50x50 organic veggie garden which I do well with.

What i'm still dreaming our homestead will get us:
Pigs (2-3 at a time, not overwintered. Sole purpose to raise and butcher)
An Alpaca or two for fiber
small flock of sheep for fiber and meat
Goats for milk or a family cow.

I would rather have a cow vs goat for milk, as I like that taste better. However i'm not looking at turning my property into a manure field either. So we will see what the alpacas and sheep and pigs take up first and judge it then.

Also any animals we get could be possible 4H projects as I have 3 kiddos.

Greetings from the front range in Colorado and welcome to the farm lane Been a long time since you were last here (Aug 2010 ) Sounds like you have a pretty good set up (Don't we all wish we had more land?) Sounds like a pretty good start! As for the 4H issue for the kids, chickens work, as do pigs, the two things you anticipate having this year. Of course goats and sheep also work as do cows. Should have lots of choices!

Glad you came back! If you could share a few pics, we'll all drool over them... We're kinda a bunch of pic addicts... Look forward to "seeing you around" the threads

Welcome back after 6 years. Like @Latestarter we are ALL pic addicts over here! At Least I think we all are. Four acres is plenty to have a cow without turning it into a manure pile. But goats and sheep and pigs are good to. Even a mini jersey of dexter would be a good one for that amount of land.

I think that if you ever had some good goats milk you might feel differently. A couple of goats would be better for your limited space than a cow.

[Hens and Roos]

Welcome glad you stopped back and shared pictures. Nice looking garden- we decided not to plant a garden this year- to many things going on. How about rabbits?

Hens and Roos- My hubby does want to get into meat rabbits, forgot about that. That will probably be coming up soon for us as well.

Pigs and rabbits are top priority. Alpaca I asked for my birthday for. lol
