Not a 'livestock vet'. There's a small animal vet that I could take him to, but I'm not sure if they even take goats. I will call and find out, though.... Thank god my vet does farm calls

I ment they dont do farm calls until after 4pm, unless it is an emergency....because they are at their clinic until then. If the clinic has more then one vet then they usually will as one does farm calls and 1 runs the office.

Okay guys, Elvis started a series of antibiotic shots. Bc of his temp being at 103.7 vet says try antibiotics first. I'm pretty sure this is what's going on, too, after talking with him. He took blood and stool and is supposed to be running tests to make sure. Wish us luck!!

These critters can sure scare us, I hope he is ok. Is he a wether or a buck? Are you familiar with UC and the suggested feeding for wethers to help prevent it? I lost one to UC before I learned so now I tell EVERYONE even if they don't ask and never assume they already know. I wish someone had told me. :hugs

What are you feeding this buck?

I'd be treating for UC as well. UTI are very rare in male goats. 8 months is plenty old enough to get UC. If it is UC, he won't last long. Hate to say this, but if he doesn't make please consider having a necropsy done or open him up yourself to check the bladder.

Did the vet give banamine?

The reason we don't think UC is bc he gets ammonium chloride from his feed and the supplement he gets. He is feeling better already today. I am really amazed at how many of you actually truly care about my Elvis. Thank you all so much!!
It means so much to me that I got on here today and see this :)

We all care about the animals, but equally, we care about YOU! It's tough when you have a sick animal or things are happening that you don't understand and are worried/scared. When you've got nowhere to turn and you need help/answers fast, it's nice to have folks who will try their best to help you get through it. There's a bunch of really great, caring folks here. Way to go Goat momma and Elvis! :thumbsup Here's hoping for a full recovery :fl Glad he's doing better already.

I am glad that he is doing better. And even happier that he is getting AC, so many people just don't know the problems these guys can have. Good job "mom" :)

If you see him straining to urinate you can try this to help dissolve the stones. But hopefully you won't ever need this. Of course if he was entirely blocked you would just call a vet ASAP.

Home Remedy: This is an option for treatment of Urinary Calculi. This treatment in no way guarantees the successful treatment of your animal.
½ red onion
Juice from 3 lemons
6 garlic pods
¼ cup vinegar

Chop onion and garlic. Combine all ingredients in a container and put on the stove to boil. Heat until the garlic and onion are translucent. Remove and blend the mixture until liquefied. Divide the mixture into 4 equal parts. Give 1 part of the mixture by mouth immediately. Give the remaining doses by mouth as follows: 12 hours, 24 hours, 48 hours after the first treatment. It is imperative that you give all 4 doses of the treatment even if you see improvement after the first treatment.

Hmmmm I wonder if that would work for kidney stones? doesn't sound very "tasty" to me, but then what medicine ever is? I like all the component parts, just not sure about mixed... Maybe followed up by a nice stiff double of crown royal or something...
