Just spent 15 minutes deciding on name theme for this year's lambs. I'm not sure about naming the boys... if so they will be coconut, sesame, and salt.

Misty's white ewe is named Vanilla.

Vanilla is doing okay. Misty kept interrupting picture taking.


One of Mocha's twin's (blue tail) is silly and keeps trying to approach Shy Lady. She fairly gently shoves him away.

I gave Cinnamon her 8wk CDT shot, weighed, and ear tagged. She is 47.72lbs. The QFlex 3 ear tag looks huge but not bending her ear down. She doesn't rip it out or hook it on something. If she does I will switch to different style for this years lambs.

I use the 1.5 size on the lambs. They get their name tag when they’re fresh and little. They get their scrapie tag when they’re older. My numbering system is based on the year (this year starts with 24) so I don’t like ordering scrapie tags until I know how many I need.

@purplequeenvt Can you tell me who you order tags from? Premier1 sells imprinted as in sheets of 20 or $2.50 each. Do you mean the QFlex 1.5?

For the little lambs so far, I'm using the blue marking stick from Tractor Supply. It's working good. I have blue mohawk, blue tail, and blue butt. LOL

So Mocha got a down check on mothering abilities today. She and Misty ran out with rest of ewes when I let them out to graze around 11am after rain stopped. After a few minutes Misty started calling for Vanilla and came back to shed looking for her. Perfectly acceptable in first time mom.

Mocha on the other hand kept on heading farther away without answering babies. After about 15min, I caught her by collar and took her back to shed. She was not amused and babies were frantic. She's earned another couple days shed only.

I also started moving ram shed to higher ground. I will be mounting to top of 4x4 to raise ground inside. The fence line will separate rams from trees.

Yes, the Qflex 1.5 from Premier1. I get blank tags and write the lambs name on the tag. My sister bought a laser printer last year so now I can custom print directly on the tags so they don’t fade out like the marker does.

How much was the laser printer? I have to order blank tags when the sheep lose their ear tags.
