@Ridgetop My eventual plan is to join NSIP and sell quality seed stock. I can't afford the yearly fees yet. I'm collecting data now so I can enroll in another year or so. All the well known breeders of registered sheep in area sell with with Codon status identified on pedigree.
The Howell ewes are very nice but not Codon tested. I bought Snickers as a registered ram, papers in hand but ear tag missing. He is Codon RR on his pedigree. So I'm using blood test as a double check that he is as presented. I want to establish a QQ free flock at minimum.

I would not remove the eye either... Use some antibiotics in the eye, then if you are concerned about flys immediately bothering it until it dries up, cut a patch from an old pair of jeans or other soft type material (worn jeans type softness) and put some soft type glue around the edges and glue over the eye... think something like the "pinkeye glue patches" you can see for cattle... it will eventually wear off as they rub it on things, but by then the eye is healed and it will be whatever it is...Sewn shut in cattle is a sign of cancer eye and they bring less than just a dried up non seeing eye...
We have 2 one eyed cows... granted not a bull for breeding.... but other than working on their "good side" when we bring them in for anything we need to do... they are fine.
So, he can be dinner or he can get sold at the auction for meat down the road... Not a herd sire unless you know someone needing a male and understands that the eye is gone... or if he is that good, you could use him for your own, then sell him for meat.

Interesting. I bought an angus heifer years ago as a bottle calf for cheap because she was blind. I did about 5 minutes of research and came up with the same information. I gave her a week or so of antibiotics and she completely recovered.

You can do codon testing through GeneCheck with either blood or tissue sampler. I’ve used the TSU before and it was really easy to do and didn’t require needles or extra sets of hands.

Hattie is VERY good mama. She was super upset this morning when I let her out but kept Righty in shed for a minute. I weighed him and gave him a shot of LA200. I removed needle and dropped the last two drops into eye lid and massaged around since I do not have any antibiotic eye ointment.

@purplequeenvt I'm using NeoGen with their branded blood cards. They are work out same price as GeneCheck for using cards.
The cost of tissue sampler applicator and tubes was high too spendy for me. I had vet draw pregnancy blood sample and blood cards on wild OK ladies. The babies will be easy because I can pin in lap and draw from ear vein.

I am not criticising... but we NEVER use LA200 or any oxytet used for injection, in the eye tissue... it burns like hell... use penicillin which does not burn.... ever notice that a shot of oxytet will cause the animal to twist their head or even kick some when given a subcutaneous shot??? Get a little on an open wound of your own... it burns/stings... really hurts.... has to be an eye salve type that the "hurting/burning" has been neutralized. Penicillin does not burn sensitive tissue...
Use mastitis medicine... Today or Tomorrow... does not burn... has antibiotics in it... that is what we always use for pinkeye cases... the soft semi liquid soothes the tissues. Just a little bit will coat the eye and soothe any inflamed tissue.

Yeah, when we had a mini born with entropion we'd inject penn into eyelid to puff it up & keep out of eye. By time it was absorbed, issue was usually over. Any that seeped into eye worked out fine. Need Xtra hands to hold the baby while doing it!!
