Chickenzoo, you are amazing. This story should win the "story of the year" award! Peaches is adorable! And you have nerves of steel! Congratulations to the two of you!
And Karen, thanks for all the great advice! I'll keep all this in mind for next summer :D.

Still doing good..... running around the house in a diaper. She'll run to one room bucking and kicking, then do a nose dive in the living room, roll like she's rolling on grass then jump up and run some more. Never thought I'd have a house llama....... hehe

They are fun. That is great that she has improved so much. :celebrate

Just to have this on one post. This is what I do for a preemie on day of birth:

If cold out, dry with hair dryer. Put coats on them/take them inside if needed.
Weigh the cria.
Give Banamine at 1cc per 100 lbs (I keep 1cc syringes on hand).
Give Excede at 1cc per 40 lbs (once again those 1cc syringes come in handy)
Get colostrum into them whether by bottle or tube. Feed every 2 hours around the clock. (small, frequent feedings are important for camelids).
Call the vet and have her come out. She checks heart and lungs. She also decides if the cria needs the medication to help lung development (will have to ask the vet what that med is). We also decide if a llama plasma transfusion is in order.
Make sure they are in a "kush" position and put things around them to keep them in a kushed position. Their head can be laid out flat in front of them. Laying on their side for any length of time is bad for their rumen.

Thanks for that info, I will keep all of it on hand incase it ever happens again.

I let her out today to play with mom while I fed up. Mom let her nurse, I think I saw 2 small milk bubbles on Peaches nose but no milk mustache. If anything, not much, but at least it gives them both experience. Peaches ran around, followed mom, followed me, followed the dogs( GP's), although mom was not happy about the dogs near the baby and put her ears back at them. She normally does not mind them, but she is protective. Pumba the young emu kept pecking at her spots on her jacket, hehe, she tried to nurse him and the young alpaca - that sent them both running. I finished up and it started getting chilly and Peaches came to me ready for her bottle, so in the house she came, diaper back on and she is sleeping in the living room. She wore herself out with all that exploring. So glad I got diapers, the night before I got them I had to barricade her in a corner of the kitchen with boxes. She kept trying to climb over them, push them... went on all night. :D I'll try to get pics soon
