Cancelled bread making. They brought the collie down. I loved him, but Fen was such a complete ass the entire time he was here, I had Randy take him back. There’s no way I could survive Fen’s behavior with the other dog here, and as much as this collie fit me, Fen was here first.
Well, you DO HAVE a puppy coming, too. I suspect this hard/tempting decision was probably a good one. Puppy will grow BIG and Fen may deal with a young puppy more easily. I'm sorry. Sometimes life has to happen. It'll work out. Hey, Fen is a teenager. He may mellow for you. Heck, just finding my mislaid phone would be a asset for an assist dog here! . Use what he does well.
Awe darn.
A new puppy soon and a new dog - that would be a LOT of work even for me. Yeah - and I did two puppies at the same time <eek - what was I thinking then -- learned two pups is 2x the cute and at least 4x the work>.
You are all absolutely right. I can’t believe how bad Fen’s frustration and being over threshold affected me physically. Randy is upset with me but I’ve been walking a fine line recently as far as stress. I can’t even describe how overwhelming it was.
He will just have to stay mad.
Maybe Fen is the one that needs to find someone more suited to his ways and intensities if the collie suited you better... Loyalty is one thing but if it is not a good fit, then maybe you need to rethink the situation.
How do you think Fen is going to react to a new puppy? Even an LGD that is basically outside on duty most of the time... and you still have to train through the puppy stuff... look at @Baymule with her trials with the different ones... Although Sentry is pretty good considering what he went through with the hip situation... but Buford is still learning and he is pushing 10 months or so???? And she is still working on him.....
I’ve kind of been thinking the same thing as @farmerjan - while Fen is so darned cute and has entertaining antics he is definitely a source of high stress for you and not filling the needs that you have.
