@SageHill I must make sure THIS never, ever happens again! It was an example of the fearsome power he yields, that could forever destroy any future he might have as a livestock guardian instead of a housepet…(which is why I am happy to utilize him as a mere farm dog)

One look and I was toast!

Pitiful, begging eyes! 💘
I do believe that Livestock Guardian breeds are the sweetest, cuddliest creatures on the planet. They aren’t the typical alligator mouthed puppies, they are instead, enormous, soft piles of warmth searching for a flock, 2 legged or 4, to love beyond all reason and defend. So different than other breeds. 😍

Skip the sheep, you can be his flock.
I have come to that conclusion as we cannot have a full flock anyway. Just a couple to provide for our own freezer, which is why he’s going to be a farm dog not an LGD. I would never have started him with Fen otherwise.
Farmdog gives me best of both worlds. He can sleep outside and keep predators out of our yard and paddocks, yet give Fen a playmate and allow me to use him for mobility. It also saves me a lot of $ in rewiring the radio fencing on existing pasture fence (we ran a full mile of it for the Maremmas territory) and buying a second LGD as our apex predator load is far too heavy for 1 dog, and the wolves are moving into our area now.

Can the cowboys legally shoot wolves, coyotes, etc.? They can tear up a herd! And not lions, too.

Jeepers, too much fun there 😱😖
Nope. They have made it nearly impossible to deter the wolves. One must first prove to Fish and Game it was indeed wolves, then get a special permit with stipulations upon executing making the chances of getting the wolf nearly zero. They are collared and protected. I truly believe it’s been part of their plan to wipe out our food supply. FauxJoe did promise us a famine, after all…

The Oregon packs are increasing and moving South. People don’t realize but they have penetrated S California already. My son has videoed 2 different wolves on the ranch where he works, which is S and E of Bakersfield 😳

Boone snuk into the coop while I was feeding and putting the rabbits and chickens to bed last night. His behavior with the birds was PERFECT! They didn’t even react to him when he strolled through them. Good breeding pays for itself, I believe. He’s used to sheep and goats but I don’t know if she had chickens or not.
He’s happy now, to go outside for the night. He sleeps in the enormous 48” crate with a blanket. The raccoons and other predators who have helped themselves to my poultry and fowl in the past will be in for a surprise when he is big enough to apprehend them!
Most of his time is spent outside on his own, as I won’t leave him with Fen unsupervised. Finally Randy put a deadbolt on the back door so I don’t have to block it with 50# grain buckets. I need a system to let Fen know when the door is inoperable as it leaves him confused and upset, not knowing when or if he can get in and out

Make a Big Deal about locking the bolt. Exaggerate the motions, talk to him, he is brilliant smart and will catch on. Have a short phrase that you don’t use the words for anything else.

Deadbolt the hatch

Icebergs are attacking
