Couldn’t get zips fixed on soft crate so will have to take Fen’s wire crate to pick up Boone when he gets to Winnemucca. We will probably leave Fenny home so he doesn’t morph into the “humper from hell”
Got a place fixed up in with Mister and the calves for Boone. The sheep will be in same place once we find some so it won’t be too big of a challenge for puppy. The whole litter has been out with their goats and such in Colorado so it won’t be too novel. He can be separated by a welded wire panel in case he gets naughty with them, but still be up close and personal. I want to do some personal training on him, get him used to the ranch hands who will have to feed for us when we go to town, and train him to assist me with mobility so I can at least get around out back without any more bad falls, once he’s mature. Sorry about running on so much. I am just really looking forward to picking him up.
We got another egg today. I have 5 pullets so the rest should start laying pretty soon.
Poor Fen got beat up by the Jersey Giant rooster this morning. I feel really bad for him. He was just doing his job, coaxing him back into the pen. Apparently it requires several blueberry snackies followed by dehydrated liver to restore a sheppy’s ego to factory settings after a trauma of this magnitude. Lucky for us, we had some.
Here’s hoping for good things to come. I don’t wanna get sick anymore this year. January was a bust. Done with illness, pain and snow. Yeah. June sounds good right about now

Pheww! He is a huge puppy! I have a VERY hard time lifting him. He’s never been on a leash, only experience with a crate was being crammed in one for 3 days and nights to get here, so I am working on crate training and basic manners. He can be a bit of a wildman and he and Fen wind each other up when they are together. I’d like to use him for more of a farm dog than a full time LGD as we don’t have as much stock as we did with the Maremmas and if we use the amount of acreage we did back then, we would have to get a second LGD which I just can’t afford.
Therefore I’m hoping he will be as discerning as the Maremmas who were good around my other dogs and actually protected them from the ranch dogs. He’s currently out back where he’s next to pig, chickens, Mister and the (&@!.#*) feral cats. The way we are set up with him is to deter the raccoons, raptors, bobcats and coyotes, but I don’t think the coyotes or bobcats will show their faces in this close. The Maremmas were running them off, along with 3 different cougars that we know of. He definitely shouldn’t have to deal with those. Just keeping the critters away by virtue of being out there at night (and day) will allow me to use him for mobility around the ranch, if not elsewhere the few times I require it. I sure hope it all works out.
