Ok... I have another question.. well... maybe a few more...

#1, I was planning on getting two bottle doelings.. The more I read, the more I am wondering if this will be the best choice.. Should I stick with my plan or should I get a pregnant doe and HOPE she has at least one or POSSIBLY TWO doelings, this way I could keep a doeling and either keep her too or if she has two doelings, keep them and sell mom?

I am wanting milk but I want companions also and I want to be able to handle them easily through training (i.e. leashing, hoof trimming, etc)..

#2, The land I am on was converted from farm land into a subdivision... I have LOTS of wheat grass, dandilions, devil grass, bermuda grass, wild onions, Thistles and cactus...

I know the bermuda grass and dandilions are really good to eat but what about the rest of it? Is there anything I need to keep them from eating or will they naturally know what they can and can't eat? The only poisonous weed I have is around the back steps and the goats will never get anywhere near it since they will be CLOSELY supervised while out of their pen...

You don't want that bred doe to be lonely for 5 months .. Goats are herd animals and need a companion ... I say stick to your plan !!

I'm sure they love that all that stuff but, I would check to make sure it will not hurt them !! AND .... If you will be drinking the milk you have too be careful what will
flavor the milk ...

I would inspect you goat pen carefully but, most goats can eat alot of all sorts of things but, better be safe then sorry ...

If you want milk ... ( you either have a buck or yah don't)
Plan A ( if you don't want a buck): Find a breeder who has a buck ... You can bring the doe to be bred or bring the buck to your place for a week or 2 to a month.
Plan B: (if you can keep a buck): Keep a buck in a (not the does pen) pen with a wether (or another buck) friend !!!

OMG... I can't believe I even asked that...
 I guess my brain had a lapse or something.. I KNEW there was a reason I was planning it the way I did... UGH! Thank you...

I will definitely look into good and bad things for goats to eat but was trying to see if anyone else could tell me their knowledge or experiences...

I definitely don't want a buck.. I do however have a friend that owns goats and I was thinking about breeding with one of his pygmy's if I absolutely could not find anyone around here with a ND buck... He has fainters too but I would think the kid size could be an issue for the doe... Am I correct in that assumption?

Also, much of what I've read says that you can use a buck rag if you are unsure if the doe is in heat and the heat can last anywhere between a few hours to 3 days.. So, couldn't I just have him bring the buck to me (or bring my doe to him) if I find she is "ready" and keep them together for a few hours or possibly overnight?

I would much prefer to alternate the does so they are kidding at different times to ensure I will not only have to worry about only one doe at a time but will also have a constant supply of milk...
