My daughter bought me a little pygmy goat for Mothers day and I already had three goats (2 adult females and 1 little buck born in March)
Guess either my little buck got to "Willow" or she was bred before she got here. Looks as if she swallowed a water melon sideways. I did some figuring and if Oreo got her when she got here she shouldn't be due until the 10th of this month but she is having discharge and crying a lot today. Some loud but mostly a quieter cry.
I had the two other females but sold them last weekend and she did A LOT of crying then. The little buck didn't make much fuss and one of them was his mother.
Now Willow is crying more and more but I can't see that she is having any contractions or anything. I have heard others tell about how their doe would "talk" softly to them and then would kid withing hours . Should I be watching her or could she just be lonely and uncomfortable? She isn't even a year old yet. (Jan.) Not sure if she is going to have a pygmy or a ND/pygmy. She was exposed to her father and brothers so not really sure who is the father. Was hoping my little buck was but if she has the baby before the 10th it might not be his.

Any suggestions as to if she is starting labor of what? THANKS, Deb

Today being the 6th and the 10th only 4 days away it is possible it is your bucks kid. I would keep an eye on her just in case anyway she could be kidding.

Thanks. I just wasn't sure if she might be in early labor or just getting ready. Maybe she is nervous since she is so young. (10 months) My ND doe that had Oreo was about the same age as this one. Guess I will be spending some time in the barn today. I have her shut up in there just in case since it is cold outside. Appreciate you answering.

Not a problem I am not used to them being born this time of year but I had one born yesterday and the momma was born in febuary. Anything can happen with goats.

Yes, her udder was filled. There were problems. Feet started coming out and I couldn't feel a head so thought it was breech. Daughter came and helped pull the baby out since it was STUCK and I couldn't get it out myself. By the time we got it out it was dead. Vet told us to pull hard to get it out of there or she would die as well. Took a little while for the after birth to come out and now she is in the pen resting. Will keep checking on her. Not even sure what the baby was. I was crying so hard I couldn't tell and then it was put into the towel and in a garbage bag before I thought to ask. Just glad Willow is not crying so loudly anymore. She stood in the corner and wouldn't move but I made her get into the pen so that Oreo wouldn't bother her. That has got to be the most scarey thing I have had to do. I was so afraid I was going to hurt her or kill her. I know that she is going to be soar for awhile so will keep Oreo away from her. They can see each other but don't want him pestering her. THANKS for answering.

I'm sorry you had to go through that for your first birth. If you have some Goat Nutridrench, I would suggest giving her some. If you have black strap molasses, I would give her some of that if you don't have Nutridrench.

You could also give her aspirin. 1000mg per 20 lbs. That will help with pain and swelling.

I don't have much of anything on hand but I do have the molasses. I haven't been able to get her to drink or eat but I think she ate a little hay. She is laying down resting and I keep going down and checking on her. THANK GOD she won't have to go through this (OR ME EITHER) ever again. We had Oreo fixed about a month ago.
Do I put that into the water and if so how much would you say? THANKS

That is what I was thinking of doing. Just a metal bucket I use for water or food. THANKS. Going down there to check on her and add the molasses to her water. Appreciate this. Deb
