We used to trade a generator back and forth during the dereccho (sp)... we had several years ago right around July 4th and were out of power for days.... Ran the freezers for 4-5 hours each (2 at a time at my house) and then DS took generator to his house for his fridge and freezer..... DO NOT OPEN THEM and they will keep frozen if they run at least a couple hours every 24 hours or so. Easier than moving the freezers as they were quite full.....

Yesterday ended on a real ****ty note. I had to put a ewe down when I got home from work. Try as I might, I could not get the lamb out of her. No idea why it was so stuck as it wasn’t that big. She started to bleed heavily and was going into shock so I decided to put her down. The lamb was a girl.

Today is off to a better start. The storm is over, the sun is shining, the power is back on, and we had no major damage. I checked the cameras as soon as I woke up and saw that Skye had lambed. She’s only 2 and has lambed twice with twins both times. She’s an oopsie lamb (her dad was supposed to be a different ram) and her first set of lambs were oopsies too (their dad was her dad 🙄) Both times she’s done everything herself. She’s an exceptional mother.

They are both girls. 1/2 Border Leicester, but you can really see the Shetland influence in them.

Poor Valerie is still wandering around calling for her baby.

OH geeze - sorry about the lamb. YIKES 3 days w/o power.
Glad you've got a generator that you can resort to.

Power is back on as of 9:30 last night. It came back on right after my BIL got back with his generator and the went off again 20 minutes later. It came on again permanently just after he finished hooking it up.

HA - kind of like buying a snowblower at the beginning of the season - no snow. Glad you've got power back on.

Having to put your ewe down and losing the lamb was a heartache. I’m so sorry for that. Farming ain’t for sissies.
Then your oopsie ewe gifted you with twins! The ebb and flow of life on the farm. They are beautiful.

Glad you got power back on.
