Not to beat a dead horse but I miss Smitty and Crockett. They took care of so many little details. Smitty in particular liked the hens and they liked him. At the other farm there was a power pole light all night. The chickens would chase June bugs/May beetles late at night and he would lay down near it and they would stuff themselves then roost next to or on him if it was chilly. Wish I’d gotten a picture. Moses will come along maybe not to that degree but he’ll get there.

Chickens are such erratic, suicidal squeaky toys, it’s a challenge even for the most stalwart of puppies. They look like such fun playmates but they just don’t last. I know when Potamus was still an adolescent, I was wishing I had a pterodactyl to train him with. But he wound up being the best with the chickens, actually grieving after I processed meaties..

Thank you everyone for your comments. I was thinking about doing portraits of the boys but can’t face it just yet. Moses went out with the sheep by himself this morning. He’s a year and 8 months so there’s still a lot of growing up to do. Very puppyish in a lot of ways.
