Today was fairly lazy since the temp was pushing 100. I did get all of the first maintenance done on the zero turn. They did a pretty good job of engineering that machine as it only took about 15 minutes to change everything.

Hot here too. Miserable hot. I come in soaking wet, take a shower and change clothes. In the evening, same thing. We have July and August to get through……,

I put ewes with Cooper I think it was April 4. Yesterday I saw him breed one of the ewes. Last year, the early spring months produced nothing, but that boy went to town in July! Ewes were throwing themselves against the cow panel divider so I opened the half cow panel gate and shoved them in there. So now what? Are any of the ewes pregnant and this one was a holdout? Or is this going to be a repeat of last year? I was about to take this group out. Go figure…..

The ewes may not be coming into season until mid-summer OR it may be that the ram is a more seasonal breeder and really doesn't come into rut until July. Either way, the late breeder will join the new batch of ewes when they lamb. It could also be that she was already bred and the proximity of the excited ewes in estrus caused him to try to breed already bred ewes. Just add those breeding and potential lambing dates to your chart.

We have had our place for almost 8 years and have never had this kind of heat.I was out mowing yesterday and never broke out a sweat but the humidity was way down. Today was high humidity and high temps so I was sweating with 105 temps. I had a couple of lesions on my back removed yesterday that had been there for far too long but they were harmless but gone now. I seem to be making a habit of doctor routines.

The heat will take you down, do be careful and know when to quit and go inside. My cut off time seems to be 11:30.

We are going to merge all of the sheep today and sort out which ones will be going to the sale Monday. We have several of the adults that will be going and a bunch of the ewe lambs. This is another shot at getting our numbers where we want and to cull some adult ewes that should have been culled a couple of years ago,

We got the sheep moved and ready to work but then we both decided that the 10 degree cooler temps tomorrow were too inviting to ignore. It was already 90 degrees at 10:00 with a high right at 100 today so that 86 tomorrow is looking better.

One of the biggest issues with the high temps is feeding Mel and Maisy. When it gets in the high 90's, they will either not eat at all or very little. I get around that the best I can by feeding early in the morning and waiting to feed in the evening after it cools a bit. I just got back in from the late feeding and it had dropped down to 90 so they still ate.

I put yummy stuff on the dogs kibble and they lick the pans. Otherwise they would just take a couple of bites and walk away. So yes, I cook chicken for my dogs.
