This morning when I went out to feed, I noticed that my doe had some pasty brown mucus coming out of her nose. She also has some crusted around her mouth. At first I thought she had sneezed while chewing cud and had made a mess of herself, but on a closer look I saw it was snot from her nose. Last night, she had a good appetite, but this morning I offered her grain after she showed no interest in hay. She took one grain and bunched up her mouth, which she never does. My other doe was eating okay, but she took one bite of hay and did a similar buncing of the mouth. My bucks ate the same hay with no problem and they seem fine. What is wrong with my doe? Does she just have a cold or do I need to be concerned? Any help is appriciated. Thank you.

pnuemonia is bad right now. If she is off feed I would treat her with an antibiotic, or have a vet look at her if you don't have the supplies to give her shots.

Thank you so much for your quick reply. Are there any other signs of pnuemonia that I can watch for, and which antibiotic do I use?

x2

Fever, coughing, wheezing...among the other things you've noticed. But don't wait, treat now or call a vet.

Well, the perscription Nuflor is commonly used and very good, but you can also use Penn G twice a day for 5 to 7 days(1 cc per 15 to 25lbs of body weight) or an injectable oxytetracylene once a day for 5 days(1cc per 40lbs) if they goat is older than a year or so. Oxy isn't good for bone growth on a growing kid so then Penn G or Nuflor should be used.

Nuflor can be used on any age.

The important thing is to get treating right away.

I checked my doe's temp. It is 105.4 F. The rectal thermometer came out bloody. This doesn't sound good. We are waiting to hear back from the mobile vet. We have PenOnePro antibiotic. If we do not hear back from the vet, we will treat it as pneumonia.

I would be loading her up with drugs very very soon.

besides giving her an injectable antibiotic, I would drench her with Corn syrup/corn oil/ and mollasses mixed together or any combination of those that you have. Could include yogurt and a little honey. A 30 cc drenching syringe helps a lot with this, take your time, don't rush her when you are drenching.

For my standard adult does I do 2 ounces of each and do this a couple times a day. The energy from this will help her a lot.

Electrolytes in her water may also help.

The vet can also give her IV fluids, or you can get IV fluids and put it under her skin 15cc at a time in different spots to total around 30 to 50cc at each treatment.

She wont make it past tomorrow with that tempurature, if you don't get antibiotics in her. and make sure she is drinking or gets hydrated.

PenPro One:
I would treat her Intramuscular, atleast today and tommorrow and every 8 hours the first day or so. I would give her 1cc per 20lbs the first couple doses and then you can go to 1cc per 25lbs or so. the bottle says 1cc per 100lbs that is NOT enough.

Treat her for 7 days twice a day.

She probably really needs Nuflor, but I have only ever used Penn G, with pretty good luck. Or an La 200 product, but you can't switch back and forth between LA 200 and Penn G products.
