You DO know you are talking about Bay, right?
Rest period is over. Neighbor Chase came over this morning and we worked a few sheep, trimmed some feet and wormed a few. He picked out his chocolate ram lamb and it’s exactly the one I would have chosen. He’s gone to get square bales and is going to pick up a bale of alfalfa for me.

We also weaned my Ringo 2.0 ram lamb. He’s not too happy right now. He’s 2 months and 10 days, time to get him out of there.

His hay guy is hauling round bales today, Bahia and Bermuda mixed for $80. Coastal Bermuda is running $150 per bale. The summer drought is driving up prices. @Ridgetop yall are so lucky to be getting rain! Layne is taking a weekend off on the next week or so and I may go pay for the hay and get him to haul it. I’m thinking I need to get the hay nailed down and not wait until fall. Even if it rains, prices will still be high.

Leaving in about 30 minutes to take Carson for his rabies shot. When I come back, going to pick up a single bale from a cousin, for $80. He’s worried that he won’t have enough for his cows, but will let me have a bale. I’ll have him put it in the back of the truck and do the stomp accelerator, stomp brakes and roll it out. Then maybe I can push it into place with my tractor. If not, Chase will come set it for me.

I have to dry lot the sheep. They are over grazing the field, grass ain’t growing. My yard is sheep mowed!

This will give me an opportunity to spot spray their field, then mow it. Plus the front field too. Then I’ll get revved up and work on the short stretch of fence on the side of the front field.

Rest time is over, Play time starts now!

Do you want Cody's number to order some hay if he has enough? Or if Layne will haul for you, maybe your guy in Lindale has hay. Cody has the big round bales and your Lindale guy has smaller square bales. That's an hour closer to you.

Is Cody’s hay net wrapped and how much does he want for it? It would have to be quite a bit below $80 to cover fuel up there and back.

I’m slap out of hay. I paid $80 for a Bahia bale, I backed up fast, stomped brakes and it rolled out. Chase came over with his tractor and set it for me. Sheep are happily munching on it now. I’ll have to keep them off the field until it rains. And rains.

It’s HOT!

When I got back with hay bale, Sheba was crying. She was so hot. Buford is oblivious, he just goes swimming in the pond. But he likes it under the porch too. They didn’t even come out or bark at Chase’s tractor. And Sentry is passed out in the dog crate.

I’ve got an ice cold glass of limeade. I buy frozen lemonade and limeade at Walmart. It’s so good! Soaking wet, hot, it sure tastes good.

Whoop! Son found ad on FB Marketplace for Bahia hay, $65. Fertilized 4x5, so not the big bales, but even this size is $80 and up. I talked to the guy this evening and will go tomorrow or Saturday and pay for it. Happy. Happy. Happy!

I posted on Sentry’s thread. It was supposed to go here, guess I was stupid tired. I’ll copy it and post it here too.

I hitched the flatbed trailer this morning. Met the hay guy, he put one in the back of my truck, I paid for 21 bales, made bill of sale, for 20 to be picked up in a couple of weeks. Then I did grocery shopping. Went to McCoys for 11 treated 2x6x20 for new trailer floor. Went home about noon. Time to put Sheba and Buford in the front yard! I didn’t see them again until after 6 when I got off the tractor.

Put away groceries. Went to drop trailer and unload hay. Dropped tailgate, backed up fast, stomped brakes, bale rolled out.

It’s nice hay, net wrapped. I wanted it in the shed so I can take hay to the horse, instead of giving her the whole bale. I tried to pick it up with my tractor. I wrapped a chain around the bale and hooked to the bucket.

Marigold tried, she really did, but just didn’t have enough horsepower to pick it up. The front end came up, but not the whole thing. I put the chains away. Can’t pick it up, so I pushed it. I got it where I wanted it. LOL

Then I decided to mow down some goat weed. And some more, those little ones over there, the grass that got tall and tough so the sheep wouldn’t eat it, and finally stopped after 6 to do chores. I mowed 3/4 of the middle field. Sheep are on dry lot. I mowed around a few patches of thorny Carolina horse nettle. I’m going to spray it.

I was hot, tired, coated in dust and dirt and sore from tractor bouncing over ant mounds and crawfish mounds. Did chores and took a shower. It’s been a productive day.

@Ridgetop Cooper bred P16 today!
On 7-12 he bred P15, hasn’t bred Cleo yet.

Poor Cooper! Intoxicating ladies bring out all his manly attributes, the heat makes him pant, mouth open. He breeds, then has to stop and breathe , pant and gasp. His balls can hang low enough to escape his body heat, but then they are at the mercy of the atmospheric heat. I hope he’s not suffering this hard work for nothing. Maybe I should invent a ram balls ice pack harness!
