We put up a hummingbird feeder one fall. A female showed up, landed and sipped sugar water all day. She was so weak that she could barely hang on, and rocked side to side. Next morning, still there. She stayed there 3 days before she was strong enough to fly up on a tree branch. Then a couple of days flying down to feed, then back to her tree branch. This was followed by defending “her” feeder and gave us lots of laughs. When fully rested and fed, she flew away.

Hummingbirds migrate. In south east Missouri they get the hummingbird migration. I was sitting on a porch there this fall and we estimated close to 50 hummingbirds at that house. There is a bout six houses with feeders and they are all full. They will fight like mad with each other. They are only there for a week or so then they are gone. They come spring and fall.

In California I had 3 feeders hanging from the porch overhang. Oneyear we must have had over 20 of the tiny things fighting for onershi of the feeders an esting in the large elm. They like the top branches that are too slender to suoport any weight like cats, squirrels, or larger birds. We didn't know that they were nesting up there until they starting dropping red/pink stuff on the patio. LOL When the feeders got empty they would dive bomb anyone coming out of the house until a full one went up. LOL

When I opened the blinds this morning there was a dead female cardinal on the porch under the window. She must’ve flown into it. That sometimes happens with windows. Most of the time they are knocked a little silly but recover and fly away. It makes me sad when birds window crash. ☹️

I wanted to mow the front field today, but it has standing water in it. Even after 3 days of sunshine, it’s still a series of mini ponds.

I set a round bale for the sheep in the front field. My son’s tractor is a big tractor!

I set the bale and backed the tractor out.

I got on my little tractor, scooped up some dirt and shoveled it under the gate. Water runs down the fence line, under the gate and into the hoop shelter pen. The dirt helps keep the water out. I mashed it all up with the big tractor, so I fixed it.

I had 3 gates leaned on the end of the shed with doors. Grass was all grown up in them and it was messy. I dragged the gates out and cleaned up the mess. There was some used 3/4” plywood from the Hurricane blown out middle shed. I had to lift them over the cow panel pen. Heavy! I laid them down at the end of the shed and put the 3 gates back.

Then I machete chopped the weeds at the other end of the shed.

There were 5 gates in this pile, 16 feet long. I dragged the gates behind the sheds, and through a gate made of a half cow panel.

The gates were heavy, but I got all 5 moved to the neat, cleaned up other end of the other shed.

That done, I went back to the messy other shed. There were posts laid down that te gates had been resting on. I had to pry them up with a shovel.

I picked up some more mess and took it to the burn pile.

I’m tired, but I got a lot done.
