Coffee is ready! It’s 39F with a high of 68F today. Will be sunny! I think today I’ll spend a lot of time with Buford. I’ll turn him out with Sentry and Sheba for awhile to let him run some steam off. Then I’ll turn out the sheep, without Buford being on a leash. I’ll be out there to supervise. We’ll see how this goes.

Sounds like a plan. Meds, sunshine, dogs & sheep. 🤗
Weather about the same here...sunshine, low 40s to upper 60s. First half of tomorrow similar, then the downside of the ride -- rain and cooler. Maybe the buck I have in with 4 wagging tailed does will get the job done before the rain. 😁🤣Betting he will!

Yesterday it dawned on me that "something" is going on in my general area. 🤔. I've watched the construction and opening of three new businesses in our little town this past year. A WaWa, a Starbucks and a Jeep dealership. A fourth is forming, just not sure what, yet. I mean, these entities don't just build in "nowhere", they need people traffic and plenty of it. Guess I'd better do some checking around. There must be some situation happening to warrant this interest in a small town! I need to find out the "draw" that's coming.

For now, enjoying a lazy morning with my coffee mug. I'm considering frying up some bacon & eggs.

“Progress” is coming to you @Mini Horses like it or not. Roads will be crowded, it takes so long for roads to catch up to traffic. Then they stay in a state of construction for tears, causing even worse traffic.

There’s nothing in Trinity County, I like it like that. I’d better shut up or more people will move here.

I'm close...7 miles....but just off the main arteries. Property immediately surrounding isn't a concern, so I'm good with that. But 15-30 miles out has to be changing plans. Hmmm....bedroom communities will follow. It's inevitable. Also, several years to accomplish. I've been here 23 years now.

girls or boys?

The smelly jeans and boots thing is the price we pay for doing what we do. I used to wear DH's thermal log shirts under his flannel shirts. I would go pick the kids up from school in my jeans and rubber boots after cleaning the barn etc. My daughter finally asked me to pick them up a block away or change my clothes before I made the 15 minute school run. When I asked her why she said I was embarrassing her in my farm clothes ??? At the time we were keeping pigs along with the rabbits and dairy goats. The school was not in town, and apparently the pig muck on my boots was pungent. As the new girl in school, she was getting remarks. As the bad mother I am, I refused to take the time to change my barn clothes since I planned to go back to cleaning the barn when we returned from the school pickup. I did start picking her up 15 minutes after school got out, and agreed to wait in the truck although not ducking down so I wouldn't be seen by anyone.
Two girls and a boy. Unfortunately they died overnight. Bottle lambs have the deck stacked against them and these were no different. All had been chilled, none had nursed and one was butted before I could rescue him. They perked up then turned the corner. Haley is ready for her flock walk/sheep 101. Weather cold and windy tomorrow but not wet. Will be mild next week.

@Blue Sky sorry. You're right - my vet used to say they're born looking for a place to die.😔. No colostrum is almost over right then. :hugs we can't be there 24/7.
Thank you. I gave them otc colostrum but it isn’t the same. Hubbs is gone so no catching and milking I’ve tried to milk but I ended up with scrapes, bruises, a wallop under the chin (you really Can see stars) and no milk. When things settle down I’m going to visit my local goat dairy/store and ask for lessons. They use machines but I’ll bet someone knows how to hand milk. Also possibly a source of colostrum etc. It would be worth it for whatever I can learn alone. I’d pay a premium for some starter milk. I have 22 lambs in the pasture. Haley and Smitty and I went for a walk in the hill pasture. Haley was scandalized by Smitty in general and his waving tail in particular. I’ll take pics next time.

Wish you were close! I have frozen colostrum...save it every year, plus a few days of first milk. In case. No doubt I've helped a few with my stash. Occasionally my own!

This year my vet has asked for some. Foals -- when mare has no milk. Lotta fescue in my area and sometimes they foal dry, or so little they need help. I'll take him about a gallon when the girls kid in a week or so. Frozen in pint & half pint quantities. Only so many milking goats in my area, it's choice product. 😁

Had to milk one of my girls down some today. Trips and they can't handle her volume yet. 🤣 These 2 does in milk now are part of my regular milk line, so heavy producers.

Absolutely keep some goat colostrum in the freezer. Sheep colostrum would be better but if your sheep won't allow you to milk, goat colostrum is just as good. Also get some goat mill and freeze it for emergencies. The natural goat milk combined with commercial or homemade replacer works better than straight replacer. I use unpasteurized goat milk half and half with replacer for bottle babies. CAE doesn't happen in sheep so no need to heat treat colostrum or pasteurize the milk.

Sounds like your 3 little guys were beyond help when you found them. So sorry for your loss. Not only disappointing and sad for you, but financially as well. :hugs
