They say that Avon Skin So Soft is a deterrent???? I itch from OFF so don't use it. Citronella candles help a little... I also use those green coils that they came out with years ago... PIC???? Haven't seen them regularly but got some a couple years ago... They really seemed to help.
Encourage the barn swallows.... even if they make a mess in the buildings with their nests... they eat alot of them.

@canesisters if I were close, I'd mow your buttercups😶. Maybe he'll be there over weekend while you're there, to do pastures 🤞🤞maybe?

I used to mow with my riding mower -- yep, pastures. 😟 Then got a big pull behind that was better. Finally, my tractor a few yrs ago. It was always difficult to get help when I needed and where. Hard to pay to hire a tractor sometimes. :old used to be one close I'd hire occassionally...they moved.

Been mowing past couple days with my tractor and hope to get attachments changed to till garden next. That's a tough job because of size and muscle. 🥴. Takes me a couple hrs to do sometimes. Then I'm tired!!! 🤣.

I feel your pain :hugsand disappointment and limitations. Hang in there.

I am trying not to rip off my skin itching. All the rain has brought out the mosquitos in force. They think sprays like OFF are a lovely garnish. I'm covered in silver dollar size welts around each bite.
If you eat a lot of garlic, skeeters won’t bite. Cook with fresh garlic, it’s better than the powder.

Don't be an ungrateful wretch... don't be an ungrateful wretch... don't be an ungrateful wretch...
I'm an ungrateful wretch ☹️
Last Saturday I asked a friend if he might be able to bushhog my pastures. He was busy & said it was going to rain anyway. I said maybe the next day (?) & that if he could let me know when he thought he might be able to I would drop the cross fencing & lock the cows up.
This afternoon I get a text from his wife saying that he was on his way over & what did I want him to mow.
😱 I said that I'd love for him to mow anything he can get to & that if he could wait just a little bit I'd be home & would lock the cows up so he could go in & out of any gate easily.
An hour & a half later I text that I'm heading home... get a message back that he's done.
🤔
He mowed the tall weeds in my front yard & the power line.... not a single weed or buttercup in the pastures was touched.
He has mowed the pastures while the cows were in the before... he has let himself in & out of gates before... he ALWAYS manages to only be able to work it in while I'm gone....
I'm trying to be grateful... I am.... but I DON'T CARE ABOUT THE POWER LINE & THE WEEDY FRONT YARD.... I ASKED FOR HELP WITH THE PASTURES 🤬
I get soooo sick of being at the mercy of people who want to 'help'... but only in their own terms.. and still expect return favors for all their help

....getting off my soapbox now ☹️
What about buying your own tractor? Manufacturers put together packages, complete with trailer, and they finance. Sometimes you can catch a no interest sale. My tractor is a 23 horsepower, too small for what my needs are now, but son has 2 bigger tractors, so I’m keeping mine.

There is an old wife's tale that if you make an x over a mosquito bite with your finger nail it'll stop itching.

It's crossed my mind, many times. I used to use the riding mower but I'm pretty sure that contributed to its early demise. When the dog fennel starts getting big I go out with the slingblade.
Last year I tried to rent a small tractor & bush hog and found that nobody around here will do that. They'll rent you a tractor OR a bushhog but not together. I guess people were tearing them up??? I considered renting a tractor from one place & a bush hog from another but the combined delivery fees made it ridiculous.

Up, out, back inside. Coffee now. Maybe some breakfast? Decide -- go to auction? Change attachments & till? Hmmm...rains in early afternoon, maybe 1/2" 🤔. May not happen until dusk. It's cool and very humid out there. Wonder if I can catch a few bucklings??

Decisions! not much prep done 🤣🤣what's new?

Was up for a couple hours last night, just got up, got a cup of coffee. @Ridgetop and her husband are coming today, spend the night, and go get their puppy.
I’m contemplating getting on my little tractor and mowing where the small barn will go, in the front pasture. I got stakes so I can rough out where it is going. Will have to bring in dirt.
