In for lunch. Sheep seem to think there are dinosaurs in the grove -- sure sounds like it and the dropping trees look like they are dancing in the grove as well. I couldn't agree more.
Got the scoop......
The owner is taking out the grove and replacing it with a different avocado - Gem. Similar to a Haas but bigger and will be planting very tight. Tight planting is the "new thing". The farmer apparently has deep pockets and is also buying up groves that are a bit neglected. Though this one was not - but it's probably the 4 high producing wells he was looking at. So new irrigation but using the same main lines.
Out with the Haas, in with the dense plant Gems (which are still not really known by the market).

There has to be some reason you have so many turtles. Is your property on their highway from winter to summer grounds or something?

Two ponds, some near low area lands that are wooded. IMO

I see turtles crossing roads all the time. Lots of ponds on farms and ranches all over east Texas. Rivers, creeks, hood turtle habitats.
I have two ponds. One is in the back field, Sentry doesn’t go there, those turtles are safe. Turtles in HIS field do NOT belong!

Maybe Sentry is not pure LGD. Maybe he is a rare turtle hunting breed!

He’s freaking crazy, that’s what he is!

Coffee is ready! Gonna be another hot day. Hopefully not a turtle day, I’m tired of turtles.
I bet you are!
I had a box turtle dig a nest near my back porch and lay eggs once. It was really cool. Once I saw the nest opened where they had hatched, I was scared to walk around, mow, rake.... figured there were a dozen tiny little half-dollar sized turtles scooting around somewhere.

A turtle dug a nest in the open front shed (that I will tear down later) . The granddaughters and I dug it up, but found no eggs. We dug it up because the nest was right where tires of the lawnmower would run over it, we were going to relocate the eggs.

2 years ago when I was moving the pile of dirt and rocks I had piled up while digging the pond out 2 years prior I came across a turtle nest. Presumably a snapping turtle since that is all I've seen here. I tried to recreate the nest back in an area where I wasn't moving dirt but I don't know if anything ever hatched.
