Coffee is ready. All is quiet outside. Either the dogs didn’t bark much last night or I slept through it. I’ll suit up after while and go feed and check on all the animals.

Thanks for the coffee. A whooping -1 this morning same yesterday +1 tomorrow. It looks like Wed will start at 10 and get to 40 for a two day warmup. It started snowing while we were at church yesterday. Pretty snow packed roads before we got home. It looks like we had some major highways shut down from wrecks yesterday.
Get ready easterners, MH, FJ it looks like the snow is falling from OK/AR line to past Nashville, TN, and still heading east. It's your turn I've already had my share.
Carrying steaming water to the heifer 4 times a day. It's so full of ice, most of it just pours off. So I just pour slowly and hope it helps. Have to put steaming water in the heated dog bowl twice a day. It'll be better in a couple of days. Then back to single digits again. At least next time the single digits will be low not the high

For a cattle or horse trough, if possible, hack a drinking hole down to the water. Dont fill up over the hole. The layer of ice will act as insulation for the trough, then you can break ice in the hole. I learned that in Snowmeggdon of 2021. I kept a squirrel stick in the big tank all the time so squirrels could get a drink and not drown. Other wildlife used that stick as well.

@CLSranch I so appreciate your wanting to share ! 😳🤐. I'll need to decline for now -- no offense but, no snow!

@Baymule yes, the hole works in a trough. I keep a board in my big troughs most all year. Those birds! Go in for a bath & can't get out. 🥴

Tonight is start of the teen-20s nights. 😖. Days in 30-40 I can deal with if only the winds don't kick up. That just goes thru you like a knife. We all know this! But I'll whine anyway.🤣🥶 I'm as prepared as I can be.

Told myself I WILL do inside cleaning this week. I can do something each day 🤔. Gonna can a few of these sweet potatoes while I'm "house bound". Wallet says NO more shopping 🤣🤣🤣🤷 find another time waster.

The bigger trough for the horses and cattle has a floating heater. The birds sit on it and get a drink. The heifers isn't very big and went from break the ice one night to almost completely frozen the next morning. If the chickens come out they use that one also, so a thin layer of not frozen is enough. I could just switch buckets for the heifer then she'd have plenty but the chickens couldn't drink when they leave the coop.

Share and share alike. We have mutual feelings about the cold, soooo want it or not, I want it gone.lol Even though it comes every few years 38 below normal is cold🥶☃️ and I just wish I had a little ranch South of the equator for 3 months a year. Of course I wish I had an "actual" ranch here as well.

Woke up to lt snow and roads covered. 24 degrees. Up to 29 at noon.

Cows in barn, had to go up and get the sore foot cow in the other gate after DS got the rest in. All ready... Talked to Vet, he is running about 15-20 minutes late and that actually works since DS has to deal with all the contractors that were coming in at noon for the roads. He said he should be there by 1:30... not the first time the vet and I have had to start by ourselves. DS said jim was going to come help but I just talked to him and he has diarrhea and so told him to stay home. DS said he decided not to ask ex, that we could do it with jim... she didn't need to come out in this mess.... HUH:hu:idunno:idunno:th:th:duc:duc:duc. WHATEVER....

So I will go up to the barn around 1:10-15.... get cows in the back section to start up the chute... get ready and then we can start whenever he gets there.

Supposed to snow more this afternoon... we were originally supposed to see a break from 9-12 or so,,, but it has just been a very fine mist like snow... and now is coming down a little more... supposed to snow straight through into the night. Still saying 3 inches...

Oh boy! Houston is a mess! Roads are wet and it’s turning to ice! Wrecks all over the place. 18 wheeler turned over on Interstate 10 west of Houston.
At the flipped 18 wheeler, a reporter is showing another 18 wheeler on other side of I 10 with tires spinning. It can’t make it up the overpass.
Highway 59 at the Trinity River bridge on the county line of San Jancinto and Polk county lines , is closed, both directions.

Schools are closing tomorrow in Houston area. North of Houston, all the other counties up to the Texas/Oklahoma line are closed.

There is sleet and ice all over my farm. I’m not going ANYWHERE.
