Here’s a trick for chicken water. Rotate the water jugs with the trays. By morning it is a block of ice. Replace it with one full of hot water. Chickens will appreciate a warm drink. Set ice block in bathtub. Run hot water over it. Should be thawed by next morning. Fill with hot water and swap out for ice block.

@Margali please be careful. I got some new buckets to carry boiling water to thaw ice in sheep water. Busting with a shovel helps too.

Windy & warm this morn, 63 yesterday morn was 31 and hard, hard frost. Geesh.... A little rain last night with the warm front. Cooler week of temps on the way

Goat auction today. I'll go by, look & visit. I swear I'm going to sit on my hands!! . 4 recent bottle weaned meat calves consigned -- just want to see what they bring. Been home almost every day for a month and I need to stop spending!! . At this rate I couldn't afford to retire, if this is what I did, bleed bank accounts.

That said, I had planned to buy a tiller this year and just had to buy a truck so...not terrible when I look at it that way. I shopped smart tho! Absolutely a garden 2024.

Coffee, feed chores, then it'll be time to check out the auction. Haven't been in a couple months, so a fun day. Visit friends day

Oh come on we have this coming the next few days. Just like 2021. Well a little warmer here I think just -2 forecast although it's colder here than Tulsa. The long term forecast doesn't show all the outlying areas.

Stay warm for those who've already been hit. Get those severe weather clothes dug out to those who are still waiting on it. Time to go dump hot water to the critters.
Hint for those that can. I put a electric dog water bowl by the house. No electric by either coop. This way both coops can come get a drink anytime of day. No dumping or thawing out waterers. At 10 or lower a warm up doesn't last long.
Large pot on the propane stove with the burner on low staying on from yesterday until Thursday. Put it in bucket for thawing water tubs, the dripping faucets go into pots or pans to refill the pot. That way I don't have to waste water trying to get it warm while the faucets are already running and the large pot holds a lot of residual heat warming up the colder side of the poorly insulated house.

I’ve drawn up lots of water in big pots in the kitchen. I’m learning how to cook on son’s Treager grill, got country style pork ribs and a shirt steak out there on it. Doing laundry too, clean sheets too. Busy!
