Typical flying time on most drones (at least a few years ago when we got ours) is about 20-30 min. So if you see it it won't take ~that long for it to have to "go home". You may also want to snag a few pics of it -- kind of like you would a stray dog.

Everyone thank you for the support and advice on the drone issue. I am going to be following up on the issues but lets move to happy things.

Like electric gate openers and firepits.

I would think if the drone was buzzing livestock it could be shot down.
Nope, FAA federal offense for shooting it done.

And the drone has to be over 400 feet in the air.
Exactly the opposite:
The maximum allowable altitude is 400 feet above the ground, and higher if your drone remains within 400 feet of a structure.

I assume this is to keep it out of airspace where there may be planes.

Is there anything that could jam the signal to the drone?
Also illegal per FAA. The original law was written to keep people from screwing up aircraft. Signal jamming, lasers in the pilots eyes, etc. As @Margali said, the laws aren't keeping up with technology.

I'm sure there are plenty of state laws regulating the use of drones but they can't supercede the Federal law regarding shooting them down or otherwise messing with them in the air. Now I do not know, but will assume, if it lands on your property, it IS your property unless you decide to return it to the operator. And if some kid is flying a drone that lands on your property and climbs the fence to retrieve it, they are trespassing; post your land! (and run a hotwire over the top of the fence ;) ) If your dogs hurt the invading potential predators you shouldn't be liable.

More research! Says you do NOT need a license unless you are using it for commercial purposes (which apparently applies to YouTubers who make money from their channel since that is where I first heard about the licensing requirement). So the neighbors or their kids CAN fly the drone as long as it is registered. And then they become subject to any local or state laws that are more restrictive than any Federal law

OK - what kind of snake?
I “snagged” a small noisy one (aka rattler) with the harrow today (not intentionally) didn’t know it until I looked back checking on things. It’ll never to make noise again.
